2005 Sunoco Welcome America!PHILADELPHIA ?May 17, 2005 ¡ª Philly is 1st on the 4th - let's get this party started! July 4th, Independence Day looks fabulous in Philadelphia, with the Sunoco Welcome America festivities headlined by the rocket-man himself, Sir Elton John.
10:00 AM INDEPENDENCE DAY CEREMONY
At 10am, Action News' Jim Gardner and Rick Williams host the Philadelphia Independence Day Ceremony , live at Independence Hall .
Tune to 6abc for a 4th of July full of Philadelphia festivities! Philadelphia Mayor John Street will present Sir Elton John with a special City of Brotherly Love Humanitarian Award at the event.
7:00 PM 4th of JULY PARADE!
At 7pm, it's a patriotic salute to the spirit of America - the Southwest Airlines 4th of July Parade! Hosted by Dave Roberts and Cecily Tynan, this annual party on the parkway features balloons, floats, music, and more! And when the parade ends, the rock 'n' roll begins! Sir Elton John headlines the Sunoco Philadelphia Freedom Concert, benefiting The Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld Fund along with the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Also appearing on the Art Museum stage will be Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, Patti LaBelle, Bryan Adams and Rufus Wainwright . And the show closer will be a spectacular fireworks display, masterfully choreographed to your favorite patriotic tunes.
"This is the biggest holiday of the year for Philadelphia, and we couldn't be more excited to bring these historical events home to our viewers," says Channel 6 President and General Manager Rebecca Campbell.
