NEW BRAUNFELS ?A couple were convicted of conspiring to kill a woman in a plot to avoid paying child support.

A jury found Jon Benavides and Samantha Kaderli-Childs guilty Thursday of conspiracy to commit capital murder. Prosecutors said Kaderli-Childs, 24, had asked a friend if she knew a hit man to kill Benavides' ex-girlfriend.
After the friend called police, an undercover officer posed as the hit man and taped Benavides offering to pay him to kill a woman.
But Benavides' defense attorney argued that his client never made a serious attempt to order the killing because he never gave the undercover officer Satterfield's name, personal information or asked for money.
Benavides and Kaderli-Childs each face up to 99 years in prison.
