Seoul --- Korea's video-on-the-go service will make a foray into the Chinese market late this year, brightening the prospects of the homegrown technology called terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB).

LG Electronics, the world's fourth-largest cell phone manufacturer, on Friday said it signed a memorandum of understanding with Yue Guang DMB in Guangdong to develop terrestrial DMB technology.

"We demonstrated our DMB phones to Yue Guang officials with the aim of providing our phones to the outfit in time for Guandong's commercial launch of DMB service in December," an LG spokesman said.

Terrestrial DMB enables people to enjoy crystal-clear video, theater-quality audio and data through handheld terminals like handsets or incar devices while traveling.

Korea upgraded a European radio technology to create the unique take-out TV services and looks to embark on its commercial service next month in Seoul and its vicinity.

LG Electronics developed the world's first mobile phone specific to terrestrial DMB, LT1000, last November and aims at pumping out other models later this year.
