WilliamsF1 is one of the world's leading manufacturers of Formula One racing cars. Formed in 1977 by Frank Williams and Patrick Head, the team has secured nine FIA Formula One World Constructors' Championships and seven FIA Formula One World Drivers' Championships.
The first Grand Prix win for the team was secured at Silverstone in 1979 and extraordinarily, the one hundredth win came on the same circuit, at the 1997 British Grand Prix.Today the WilliamsF1 name exemplifies excellence. The company embodies the very best in engineering and technological innovation. Employing around 370 people, the team's prime aim is to design, research, develop, manufacture and race Formula One cars. The team manufactures a large percentage of the WilliamsF1 car with the main exceptions being the engine and tyres.
Funding for the team is derived primarily from sponsorship. With around 17 races per year, on average one every two weeks in the racing season, the team attracts high levels of exposure in the world's media. In addition to the Championship successes, WilliamsF1 has also received worthy recognition from groups outside the motorsport arena - the team has twice been honoured with the Queen's Award for Export Achievement (1981 and 1994) and Frank Williams was awarded a Knighthood in the 1999 NewYear's Honours List.
