Life Around Here Means High-Tech Toys - We Check Out Some Of The Hottest From 2002(New York-WABC, November 11, 2002) ¡ª They are the top inventions of the year. The list includes everything from the new generation of cell phones to cars going high-tech. OK all you closet tech-geeks, and I'm one of them, this is the story for you. Every year Popular Science Magazine devotes their December issue to a round up of the best technological innovations. Here are a few from from this year's list.
The Human Transport Device, or as we knew it for so long, "It," is one of the top 100 tech innovations of 2002, as decided by Popular Science.
Suzanne Kantar, Popular Science: "Every year we get together, the whole staff and all of our contributors, and we throw out ideas of what are the 100 top technology innovations for the year."
What they come up with is divided into 10 categories. The Sony Clie made the list for electronics.
Kantar: "In addition to being an organizer, it also has lots of multimedia capabilities. It has a digital camera built in, it's also and MP3 player, and what's really cool about it is that is has a built in keyboard."
Nissan's 350 Z was among the innovations in automobiles.
Kantar: "The Nissan Z Car gives you that sort of luxury feel, the high performance in something that is a much lower cost package."
Topping the medical innovations for the year is a portable ultrasound machine.
Among the other top 100 gadgets were a Minolta digital camera, a surfboard that splits into to two pieces for easier travel and a the air scooter.
Kantar: "It's a chance for us to really tell the story of 2002. What happened that was most exciting from a technology standpoint."
