Happy New Year!:

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season. I'm not quite over the flu but doing much better then last week. It sure got cold over the last couple of days didn't it? Oh well....at least the sun is shining.

Heather and I decided to start something new this year to show appreciation for our customers. We've come up with 3 Customer Appreciation Awards. One award is for our most favourite customer; someone that was always fun to deal with at the counter. The other two awards are for the most loyal customers; one local and the other for out of town. The awards were given out to the following customers:

Rebecca Reznick (Vancouver) - Favourite Customer.
Graeme Pattison (North Vancouver) - Most Loyal Local Customer.
Igor Woroniuk (Edmonton) - Most Loyal Out-of-town Customer.

Each of the above were given a $50 gift certificate to go toward anything in our store. We consider all of our customers as our favourites and appreciate their loyalty. The above three just stood out from the rest. Thanks to everyone that supported Scooter Md Services in 2005.

I've got the flu!:

I started feeling a bit funny on Boxing Day (that's the day after Xmas for you Americans). "I'm not getting sick! I haven't been sick in over 2 years!" Well, as luck would have it, I got sick. And feeling worse by the minute. I've decided to go home early today and also take the day off tomorrow (Thursday). It's slow anyway. Too sick to work on anything in the shop. We already informed you that we'll be closed this coming Friday and Saturday along with the usual Sunday and Monday. Now I'm adding this Thursday to that list. I hope that makes sense and there isn't any grammer or spelling mistakes....I'm not proofreading anything...like I care right now. Just packing up and going home... Now I'm rambling on so I'll shut-up. Bah-bye.

I hope everyone had a Happy Christmas. See you all next year (we reopen on January 4, 2005 at 10am).

Rider Safety:

Taken from a 1962 Honda Motor Cycle Instruction Book. Translated by Honda for the American Motorcycle Rider:

The following rules for motorists are so successful in Japan, that North American motorcycle riders might profitably paste them in their hats.

1. At the rise of the hand by Policeman, stop rapidly. Do not pass him by or otherwise disrespect him.

2. When a passenger of the foot, hooves in sight, tootel the horn trumpet melodiously at first. If he still obstacles your passage, tootel him with vigor and express by word of mouth, warning Hi, Hi.

3. Beware of the wandering horse that he shall not take fright as you pass him. Do not explode the exhaust box at him. Go soothingly by.

4. Give big space to the festive dog that makes sport in roadway. Avoid entanglement of dog with wheel spokes.

5. Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon. Press the brake foot as you roll around the corners, and save the collapse and tie up.

Got it? Yah, me neither.

Fancy a few Lambrettas?:

Nigel Cox, owner of Weston Scooter Parts in Southwest England, is considering selling his museum. We were lucky enough to visit the museum in 1998. Nigel gave us a complete tour. It's amazing what he's collected over the years. Not just the scooters but also the parts, accessories, and novelty stuff. It's a shame he's thinking of selling. I hope the buyer will continue with the museum. Click the image below for the full story from The Weston Murcury newspaper.

Keep it Clean:

The annual Vancouver Scooter Rally hosted by the Vespa Club of Canada is this weekend.

This years theme is Keep it Clean. I'm told it's going to be the dirtiest rally ever.

Visit the VCoC's website for rally details. www.vespaclubofcanada.com

Bob The Butler:

The new Tom Green movie, Bob The Butler, is being filmed in the Vancouver area. They needed a Vespa for Tom to ride. We sold them a P125. Tom had never riden anything on two wheels except for a bicycle until now. After literally a five minute lesson, and on heavy gravel, he was a pro! And yes, I am aware that I look constipated in the one photo. Rest assured I am doing just fine.

New manual available:

I arrive at the shop today and check my mailbox. I'd placed an order for this book a while ago and totally forgot about it. This book is amazing! Mind you I've only flipped through it a couple of times but DAMN! It's full of photos and descriptive captions and it's all in colour! I suggest you get your hands on one. It covers all Series 3's and goes into performance tuning as well. Probably the best Lambretta manual there ever will be. Written by long time Scootering Magazine writer Sticky.

Jet200 Clothing & stuff:

We recently started selling Jet200 products. You can shop on-line! Check out the selection here.

We received an email this morning from Norrie Kerr, a long time friend and fellow scooter racer of the recently departed Terry Frankland. Norrie had some very nice things to say about Terry. It's worth the read. Click here.
Jun 29 12:30 PST
Terry Frankland:

Over the weekend we were informed of the the unfortunate passing of a very important person in the scootering world. Terry Frankland, co-proprietor of Taffspeed Racing in South Wales, lost his life after suffering a massive stroke.

Those of you that knew Terry knew that he was always available for technical advice with regards to scooter tuning. His knowledge ranks up there with the best of them. I had dealt with Taffspeed on numerous occasions long before we opened the shop. I had the pleasure of meeting him when Heather and I made a trip to the UK in 1998.

Rest in peace Terry. You will be missed.
