Now They Say There Are 3 Americans Fighting With the Taliban

We heard about the first one yesterday. His name is John Walker. He thinks the attacks on the World Trade Center were a good thing. Nice kid, huh?
His mother is saying that if he was with the Taliban, then it must be because he was "brainwashed." Ahhhh ?a mother's love. Your son makes stupid decisions and suddenly he's "brainwashed."
Now comes the issue of the military tribunals. Should John Walker be tried before a military tribunal overseas?
Well, it certainly sounds like a good idea to me ?but there is that little inconvenience of his U.S. citizenship. There is only one way for a natural born American to lose their citizenship .. and that is to formally renounce it. Walker has not done so.
As distasteful as it is ?I will have to vote "no" to a military tribunal for this little creep. Let's have his trial back here. The charges? Murder and treason.
Murder because he was in that group of Taliban that killed the CIA operative, and treason because he's a traitor.
The other two Americans fighting with the Taliban? They are in U.S. custody now, but have not been identified. Perhaps their parents know who they are and will be getting their "he was brainwashed" speeches in order.
'I Saw Things. You Can't Imagine What I Saw.'
That's what a15-year-old Israeli boy tearfully told his mother on his cell phone after the bombings. The suicide bomber chose a place where young people congregate and at a time when it would be most crowded, a Saturday night.
Another witness said, "I saw a 10-year-old boy dead. I saw people without limbs, people without stomachs."
Most of the dead and injured were in their late teens or early 20s. How sympathetic do you think the surviving young people (Israel's future leaders) will be toward the Palestinian cause?
Fox News reports that Palestinian textbooks don't even show Israel on maps. Palestinian children are taught from birth to hate Israelis.
One side takes an action in the name of retribution, but the other side's action was also done in the name of retribution. It becomes an endless cycle of violence, and as long as the main ingredients are religious emotion and ethnic hatred, there will be no end.
Another Obituary
His name was Sulaiman Abu Ghaith. He was a spokesman for Osama bin Laden. He pledged that America would suffer "a storm of planes." He made a televised statement in October praising the Sept. 11 attacks.
A Kuwaiti newspaper says he was killed in the fighting at Kandahar. He is survived by two goats and a sheep. May he rest in pieces.
So You Think Your Kids Don't Listen to You?
A new study suggests that teens are less likely to start smoking if they think their parents disapprove of the habit ... and this is true even if the parents are smokers themselves!
Experts say that parents underestimate the influence they have on their children, but the study shows that parental disapproval can be more powerful than peer pressure, which is said to be one of the main reasons kids start smoking.
So there you go, folks, don't be afraid to tell your children what you think about smoking. Then maybe they'll do the same for you.
I Hope They Keep an Eye on That Blimp
The Superdome in New Orleans will host the Super Bowl this year. Local, state, and even federal agencies will be on hand for security, but this year's game will have something different. The Secret Service will be in overall charge of security.
One New Orleans official said, "The Superdome will be the safest place in America that day." He may be right, but Mardi Gras follows shortly after. I hope they keep a lookout for Al-Qaeda members walking around with fistfuls of cheap beads.
Of course, it'll be hard to find one virgin, much less 72.
And Now There's 'Afghan Chic'
The Northern Alliance took to wearing what has been described as an oversized skullcap, officially named a "pakoul" or "pakul." They wore these in defiance of the Taliban, which had strict rules for headwear.
Well, now these hats have become the rage of New York and elsewhere. Anyone who is anyone in the fashion scene is wearing one. Add some fatigues and a gunbelt and you have a fetching ensemble.
But I think it's against the law to keep goats inside the city limits.
These Are the People Who Are Teaching Our Kids!
Fox News and NewsMax.com report that at a recent recruitment visit by Marines to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas Law School, kids in the audience interrupted the Marine lawyers' presentation with catcalls, hooting, talking and laughing loudly among themselves, and blasting the volume on nearby TVs.
One adult there said it was "beyond embarrassing" and "not only disrespectful but immature."
Okay, I wasn't entirely truthful there. It wasn't kids making asses of themselves. It was faculty! And the quotes by the adult? That was a student who said it.
Just amazing!
Thinking a Little More About That Scooter
By the time I hit the air yesterday I had developed some real second thoughts about that little Segway scooter ?you know, the one they introduced yesterday? You probably saw it on some newscast last night.
I'm down here in Florida now in the Land of the Larks. Larks are those hideous little electric scooters that fat people seem to like so much. They like them because they don't like to walk.
Over 90 percent of the folks who bang around in these things are HUGE! They're fat ?grotesquely fat ?and the reason they're fat is because they've been lazy and self-indulgent most of their lives.
They don't want to go through the hassle of actually having to maneuver one of their gargantuan legs around the other in a parody of the walking movement ?so they hang their blubber-butts over the edges of their scooter seats.
Now we have this new Segway. Just call it the Pre-Lark. If this thing catches on, people will be able to stop walking (the only exercise many people get) at a much earlier age! Then ?just one tumble from the Segway and you're ready for your three-wheeler!
