Ford Announces For The 1999 All Sport Utility Vehicles And Ford Windstar Minivan Will Be Sold As Low Emission Vehicles

(JANUARY-1998) -- Some of the most popular vehicles in the U.S. are now going to become some of the cleanest. The Ford Motor Company announced that starting with the 1999 model year, all of its sport utility vehicles and the Ford Windstar minivan will be sold nationally as Low Emission Vehicles (LEVs).

Ford Automotive Operations President Jacques Nasser stated, "The commitment means that one in every five vehicles Ford sells in the U.S., or at least 860,000 vehicles, will be the cleanest gasoline-powered minivan or SUV available."

Among other green-theme initiatives, Ford also unveiled the P2000 DIATA prototype, a revolutionary new clean car that can drive a family of five about 63 miles on one gallon of fuel.
