CEBU's top motocross rider, Popeye Rubi, ended his 2003 campaign with an easy win in the 1st Neneth Generan Supercross Invitational yesterday in San Fernando, Cebu.

Popeye was in his playful self again, showing off his antics at the racetrack from the first down to the final heat.

Popeye was even more confident after his father, Pepo, his toughest opponent in the experts' class decided to discontinue racing and focus on the technical side.

Popeye, a mainstay of the Shell-Yamaha squad, crossed the finish line way ahead of PowerSports Racing's Juvenile Abellar.

Ian Reyes ,who seldom dares to ride under the expert class, got lucky this time on the way to grabbing the third place.

In the executive class, Arnel Quitay prevented another Rubi from taking the front seat by beating Andot in the executive-A as PSR's Jonas Adlawan ended third.

In the executive-B, Nonoy Reluya emerged as the champion against Flint Concha and Solomon Canoy.

Andrew Canlas, on the other hand, broke Vincent Realiza's heart after securing the open enduro title as Andrew's younger teammates, Ryan Alquisola, Jon-Jon Adlawan and Renan Alquisola dominated the peewee class via a 1-2-3 finish.

Dipolog's Wendel Barba and Ian Realiza, however, snatched the top two spots of the 125enduro, while Lester Concepcion landed at third.

Barba's buddy, Tadoy Mercado, claimed the title in the beginners production, while Joshua Abellar and Adam Uypitching settled for second and third, respectively.

Feleciano Guari completed the cast of winners after topping the pantra action against 19 other entries.

After the event, Popeye and the rest of the Quickflight riders will only enjoy a very short rest as they head on to another competition early next month.

Quickflight has already committed itself to join the January 3 and 4 Marbel, Cotabato invitational event.

Right after their stint in Marbel, Popeye and the rest prepare for the January 11 competition in Mandaue City featuring the country's top daredevils.
