Style Watch: Ethnic jewelryAugust 26, 2004 ¡ª In France, fashion is not just about your clothes. Accessories are just as important! Jewelry, belts, scarves, and handbags can make a basic outfit "pop" and give you the ability to make a personal statement. That's why French native, Elisabeth Brusson, created Renaissance Ethnique, a jewelry and accessories boutique in Lincoln Park's popular Armitage shopping district. The unique French designs she imports are influenced by ancient ethnic cultures in Europe, Africa, the near East and beyond...an "Ethnique" flair.
"A woman's beauty in ancient cultures was brilliantly enhanced by significant and unusual jewelry. This same, distinct design simply complements today's contemporary style and helps a woman express her own individuality," said Brusson.
All of the designers featured at Renaissance Ethnique are artisans handcrafting their work on metal, pewter and sterling silver, many of which are combined with stones and gemstones. Elisabeth is the exclusive representative for three of the six designers featured in her store: Elena Cantacuzene of Paris, Stories and Stones of Biarritz, and, M. Buffet of Lyon. You won't find mass production fashion accents here. She also represents three additional designers whose work can be found in limited locations throughout the world.

The business began in Lyon, France, with bronze designs inspired by South American culture. Today, Buffet expands it reach with "art of human societies" -- contemporary designs inspired by anthropological items from around the world -- and the family business is currently working on reproduction of museum pieces.
