Tony Kanaan Wins K&N Filters 'Leader at the Half' Award at Famed Indy 500 Race

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 29, 2005) - Tony Kanaan fought off a hard charge by Sam Hornish Jr. to lead the 89th Annual Indianapolis 500 at lap 100 to win the K&N Filters 'Leader at the Half" Award (Hornish was just .0002 seconds behind Kanaan at the halfway point). K&N Engineering, manufacturer of the Official Air Filter Used by the IndyCar? Series awarded a $10,000 performance prize to Kanaan for being the leader of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race at the half-way point.

"Leading the Indianapolis 500 is no easy feat," points out K&N CEO Steve Rogers. "The field is comprised of 33 of the best drivers in open wheel racing. After qualifying in the Pole Position, Tony Kanaan led 54 laps of this race and was a serious contender through the finish. K&N Filters is proud to reward Tony and his 7-Eleven Racing Team with a check for $10,000 for their performance."

All IndyCar Series teams use the same K&N Air Filter - a filter shape designed specifically and exclusively for the IndyCar Series using the same technology found in K&N's popular filtration products for street vehicles.

K&N's $10,000 award was part of an overall event purse of $10,304,815, which broke the previous record set in 2004. It is the fourth consecutive year the purse for the field of 33 drivers has exceeded $10 million. The event purse is comprised of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indy Racing League and sponsor awards and other designated awards.
