Yamaha dirt bike dealer: The Top 100 dealers of 2004: South Dakota multiline dealer takes the Grand Prize
Are you an enthusiast of powersports, or a business enthusiast? If you want your dealership to succeed in the years ahead, you're both.
That's the oft-heard story from this year's class of Top 100 dealers, who recognize that it doesn't matter how much you love motorcycling, off-roading, snowmobiling and watercrafting, you won't be successful in running a business unless you can do what it takes to bring customers into your store (and have them return, gladly). Fortunately, the Top 100 dealers bring their passion for powersports into the retail and service environment with great success. It's a tough job that's getting tougher all the time.
Top honors this year were won by a two-year-old multiline dealership in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. MidAmerica Motoplex was the hands-down winner, according to the judges, with award-winning designs, innovative features and extensive (yet extremely appealing) marketing and merchandising from the front entrance doors to the back service area.
Other Top 100 dealers winning special awards include two retailers from Canada and (count 'em) six Harley-Davidson sites, proving once again that The Motor Co.'s heavily mentored dealer network still sets a good pace in powersports retailing. But watch out for some of the smaller independent shops that are doing some interesting things within their small spaces.
This year's competition was brutal, with a record number of entries and a judging panel that cast very critical eyes on how dealerships and shops are making the most of what they have to effectively serve the customer. As evidence, more than half of last year's Top 100 winners didn't even make the cut this year. Ouch! But, hey, that's good news--it means North America's powersports dealers are raising the bar in quality, innovation, customer service and just plain excitement. Our hats are off to this year's winners as well as the winners of the past 13 years of Top 100 competitions. You are setting the standard.
Watch for entry information on the 14th Annual Top 100 competition starting in next month's issue. After 13 years, the Top 100 is undergoing a face-lift with new entry guidelines and requirements that will make next year's competition more heated (and exciting) than ever. This is your chance to show off!
