Customer Reviews:

  • Waste of time and money
The food grinder works great, the stuffer is a waste. The plastic plunger for the food grinder is too small and the meat seeps up the sides. As someone else mentioned, I will try a wooden dowel next time. I was very frustrated and gave up on stuffing the sausage. I ended up with 10 pounds of sausage patties....more info
  • Did its job well
I read all amazon reviews of this product and feel it helped me when it came time to use the item. This was my first attempt at making sausage and it went very well. In the grinder phase, I kept the fatty pork shoulder cold and cut it in small chunks. No problem grinding whatsoever. I put the seasoned, ground pork in the freezer for 15-20 minutes prior to stuffing. I did have problems with the sausage mix squirting up instead of down into the feeder. When I used small amounts, this became a non issue. Don't rush it and it will work fine. We made 4 different types of sausage. The one with the most liquid added to it seemed to work the best. It was also the last one we did so practive may have something to do with it. Overall, keep the meat small and cold and you'll do just fine. This is a perfect solution for the occasional home sausage maker. ...more info
  • KitchenAid rocks!
I agree with a previous reviewer that felt this piece should have been included with the grinder. That being said, it works fine. ...more info
  • Delightful
About a month ago I purchased the sausage stuffer for my KitchenAid mixer. We stuffed about ten pounds worth of Venison Sausage and it worked wonderfully! If you have a KitchenAid and you are an outdoors man/woman or married to one and you want to save on cost I highly recommend that you make this purchase. ...more info
  • Works as advertised
Expensive for a couple of little pieces of plastic, but it works, and you don't have to buy and store a whole seperate machine that grinds/stuffs sausage....more info
  • very useful
This worked quite well, it does take some practice to figure out the best way to use it, as it is not 100% fool proof. We made some great sausages with it, though, so definitely give it a try!...more info
  • One star is too generous
Like the title says, I'm giving this product a one star rating because there's nothing lower. I bought this along with the KA mixer for myself for Christmas.

Like one reviewer stated, this thing fails horribly on three points:

The plunger has no seal, so the ground forcemeat just pushes back out instead of going down to the worm gear.
The worm gear doesn't seal either, so the plunger lets air into the chamber and the worm gear pushes it into the casing, creating air pockets in your sausage.
The stuffer is too high above the worksurface. I wound up putting mine in a kitchen chair beside the counter and using textbooks to raise it to the right level.

If you plan on making even moderate amounts of sausage, just do the smart thing and get a sausage stuffer. There is a very sturdy, highly recommended 5# model on the web, just search for stuffers and look in the $80 price range.

There's not one thing about this product that I can compliment, except maybe that it's cheap enough that I don't feel like I blew a lot of money on a piece of garbage.

  • Completes my Kitchenaid attachments
Now I can grind and stuff my own sausage, just like Henny Penny making bread. And if no one helps me I will eat it all myself!...more info
  • Sausage stuffer
The reason for a low rating is that I did not receive all the parts for a complete unit. I have not been able to use any part of this because I am missing the butterfly that goes on the end of the auger. I have tried to return this. It cost more to send it back and has been a hassle to contact anyone who will listen. Buying from this company is a joke....more info
  • Bad design, but better than nothing
After reading the other reviews I went ahead and purchased the stuffer, thinking "I only make sausage a little at a time, the size of it shouldn't effect me". Boy was I wrong! The design is really terrible. The top hole is so small that every time you push the meat in you can barely get the plunger out because there is such a strong suction. Also, you can only put the tiniest beat of meat at a time, or when you try to push it down it all just splatters to the side. All those things being said, it does beat doing it by hand. ...more info
  • The thing barely works
I usually do my research before buying, and to do this I read the worst reviews. Had I done this in this case I never would have purchased the stuffer.

As many have said, the biggest problem is with the plunger which is not wide enough to fit the chute. Meat squishes up on the sides and sticks to it. The result is overworking & heating the meat which is bad. Unlike others, I had no problem getting the casings on or with them ripping.

I'm glad the stuffer tubes are only a cheap add-on for the grinder so there's not too much down the tubes. The grinder works fantastically....more info
  • IT'S A STUFFER - WHAT CAN YOU SAY.
I bought the whole kitchenaid system and thought that i would make some sausages. there's not much thought to the stuffer (it's plastic) however, the kitchenaid is not worth the effort. 1st: you can't just buy the stuffer, it has to be used with the grinder attachment; 2nd: when you install the attachment, on the counter, it extend the kitchenaid to about 6-7 feet in height (you'll have to climb up on the chair/table; 3rd: it does not stuff easily, meat goes all over the place (leeks through the attachment), the plunger does not plunge, meat sticks and it is hard to work with, you'll spend roughly 1/2 hour trying to get meat into the stuffer, into the sausage, and by the time 1/2 hour is over, you merely stuffed about 2 feet of sausages. NOT USER FRIENDLY AT ALL.

If you are looking for a sausage stuffer that works, by RONCO. I ended up using my sister's and it is great. super easy to use and stuffs in seconds....more info
  • KA Sausage Stuffer
Works good. Bought it along with the grinder. My son and i stuffed about 50#s of venison and pork mix sausage. Great for basic hunting and home use....more info
  • engineering missed again
its just a simple plastic tube that fits on the end of the grinder attachment so you can stuff sausage. So how did they manage to mess this one up? The flare at the wide end of the horn does not sit flat against the head of the grinder, so when you go to tighten the ring down to hold it into place, the collar can not screw on all the way. The result? A build up of meat in the front part of the collar. This eventually begins to drip down making a bloody mess of whatever is under the grinder attachment. How hard would it have been for Kitchenaid to design the horn so it fitted flat in place and the collar would have screwed on tight? ...more info
  • can't go wrong
The tube is easy to use and and clean. The Kitchen Aid is not the best way to go if you you want to make a large quantity of sausage. We did about 15 pounds and it was very laborious to feed the tiny grinder....more info
  • Sausage Stuffer
I agree with other reviewers. The food grinder attachment works well for grinding the sausage meat, but we had trouble getting the sausage mixture to feed into the casing. I found that adding water helped some. I spent several hours on the internet researching dedicated stuffers. They seem to be very expensive or very unsatisfactory. So, we will continue to practice with this one. I am thinking of attaching the stuffing horn to a pastry bag. ...more info
  • A Disappointing Afterthought Accessory
The attachment fit well onto the grinder, however the design of the grinder hopper's "chimney" is fundamentally flawed (too narrow, too tall, and at a right-angle to the auger/feeder) for sausage stuffing. The grinder is great - it has proven itself many times over. However with sausage meat that is at all sticky or already been ground, stuffing is a VERY SLOW LABORIOUS process: when one tamps the sausage down into the grinder, a good deal of it comes back up.

Go ahead and use the KitchenAid to grind and mix your sausage--but to stuff casings get a manual stuffer with proper design....more info
  • Excellent addition to the grinder!
Once you get the hang of stuffing sausage, this attachment helps to make the task of stuffing sausage about as easy as making your own pasta: easy, very rewarding, if not a little time consuming....more info
  • Gets The Job Done Like a Sausage Fest in College
After making sausage a number of times with friends, I decided to try it myself using attachments for my KitchenAid stand mixer.

    Grinding? Worked great!
    Mixing? Worked fantastic?

    Stuffing? A giant pain!

I really don't understand the reviews that praise this product, as my experience has been completely different - this is a failure of a product.

    Problems with the stuffer attachment..
    1) The stomper tool is a joke. It is uncomfortable to use and is too small for the feed tube. Thus, you press the mixture down, and it spurts back up the sides. We're talking 80% spurts back up the side. Another 10% sticks to the stomper and comes back up to the food tray. The result of this is that you emulsify your mixture (combine the fat with the meat into a paste, which ruins most sausages).
    2) The auger, which is part of the food grinder which you need to make the stuffer work, fails at drawing the mixture in and out through the stuffer nozzle.
    3) Stuffer nozzle is plastic, and mine had sharp edges that I needed to file down because it was tearing my casing. It still tears my casing.
    4) The whole thing is plastic. I'm not a fan of plastic, but in many cases, a plastic product can work perfectly fine. This is not one of them. The mixture, no matter how cold I kept it, cotinually clung to the feed tuber, auger, and stuff, increased my emsulsion problems. The instructions say to lube the beed tube with shortening, but this doesn't really work well at all, and you have to reapply the lube each time you use the stomper.

The end result was I spent far longer stuffing my sausage using this attachment than I'd dreamt of. A manual stuffer is far, far, FAR easier and produces a more reliable, tasty sausage.

Sure, I bought this for around $15, and I am returning it first change I get because it is not worth the added time of frustration, ruined mixture, and torn casings. Seriously, don't waste your money on this attachment. If you only want to spend $15, use a pastry bag - it will be much easier than this....more info
  • Not bad, the pusher is useless
If you are using this sausage set up, the combo stuffer/tool thing is garbage. Other than this, no problems. I made 50 lbs of kilbasa and 30 lbs of mild link. Ended up just pushing the meat in by hand as the stuffer is useless and more trouble that useful. I am going to make my own stuffer with some solid plastic stock.Follow the directions, 4 setting on the speed is best....more info
  • Good replacement for my other stuffer
This easily replaced another plastic sausage stuffer I had on my Krups meat grinder that was damaged. Works great! ...more info
  • Plunger is too loose to push sausage mix
The diameter of the plunger for pushing sausage down into the auger is too small. If the sausage mix is moist enough to stuff into casings, it is too moist to remain below the plunger. As you push down, sausage mix oozes around the plunger into the chamber above the bottom of the plunger. This really slows down the stuffing process and results in air entering the auger and your casing. You can eliminate most of the backflow if the sausage mix drier, but this increases the load on the motor and does not significantly speed up the process. The sausage stuffer kit needs its own plunger, one that seals to the inside of the chamber and allows you to push a moist sausage mix without backflow....more info
  • A lot of meat gets stuck in it.
The meat doesn't move very well and there is a lot of meat stuck in it at the end....more info
  • great kitchen aid attachment
these come in really handy for sausage stuffing, i've also used them to grab off pieces and roll into meatballs for soups and sauces. the price was hard to beat too....more info
  • Doesn't work.
There's about 3 different thing happening that doesn't allow this to work. First, the plunger doesn't create a seal while trying to push ground meat down the feeder. It works well for grinding cubes of meat but ground meat oozes up the sides of the plunger when trying to push meat down. This creates a great seal when you're trying to pull the plunger back out and now you have a vacuum which sucks any meat in the worm back out.
Second, the worm doesn't create a good seal pushing food to the sausage funnel so you can't drop ground meat down the chute and expect it to come out the stuffer. Once again great for grinding meat but not for pushing ground meat through.
Third, when you finally get meat through you'll get big pockets of air in your casing that made their way through the worm due to the suction problems mentioned in problem #1 above.
If you want the most frustrating experience every with your mixer you can try this. It is cheap but I'm investing in a real sausage stuffer that allows me to enjoy the full process of making sausage and not finish by being throughly frustrated during the last step....more info
