Customer Reviews:

  • Powerful and good quality
    It does its job well.
I have been using it for almost 2 years.
    Never has any problem.
Just that I need a long extension cord to go with it.
A little bit inconvenient, but I am fine with it....more info
  • Pretty good so far!
So far so good. It cuts the grass nicely and just like everyone else, it takes one mowing to get used to the cord. Its not bad at all, very quiet and you dont smell like exhasut when you are done.

  • Reliable workhorse
I have used this mower for 5 years. It is my first B&D electric mower and I am very pleased with its performance, reliability, and maintenance-free operation. I sharpened the blade last year and that is the only maintenance that it has ever needed other than wiping the grass off the blade and underside every time after mowing. The 12amp motor provides more than enough power. At 52lbs, this mower is light enough for me to get it up and down the fours steps from my basement (I hoist the handle on top of my shoulder to carry it). As long as all grass in your yard is within 100 feet of a power outlet then I highly recommend this mower....more info
  • love this machine--impressive job and it does heavy work making the lawn look incredible
I am on my third summer with this lawn mower. I got a good strong 100 foot cord that can handle the power. My first one was too weak for it. I do have to manage the cord as my place is not flat and I have bushes in various spots on the property. I love the job this mower does. It is easy to turn on and with practice the cord and planning the cord is not a problem. It an incredible machine. My lawn is well fertilized and taken care of so when it rains it grows fast. This machine can mow the lawn when areas are 8" high; my lawn grows fast and so I have to wait for the lawn to dry before I can mow it so it can be a little long when I have done it. This situation doesn't happen too often, but when it does, the mower can handle it easily. The mower just plows thru it all. It does take a little muscle to manage the weight if you do uphills and go in circles around plants, but the job this mower does is impressive. My lawn looks gorgeous. I just love this machine. I would not buy a battery style one as I love the power and gorgeous job it does. I adjusted it to the height I wanted it to cut and it has stayed at the setting. I don't use the bag with it as I leave the lawn cutting for mulching the lawn; it usually blows away anyway. I have nothing but praise for this machine. And yes I'd buy this machine again. I highly recommend it. It was easy to put together--the handles and that was it....more info
  • Awesome and Easy to Use
I love this mower. It came almost all put together. All my husband had to do was attach the handle. It's such a lite mower and it's also very quiet. It cuts great and does the job. I definitely recommend this product....more info
  • Decent Mower For Light Duty
I bought this mower for use on what I would consider as the "largest yard you would want to tackle with an electric mower" my lot is (140 ft x 100 ft).

    The Good

    - Virtually maintenance free (aside from keeping the deck clean)
    - Quiet
    - Does a good job if you are tackling a light mowing chore

    The Bad

    - Broke after 1 year of use (luckily still under warranty now I'm going back to a gas mower)
    - Not as powerful as I'd hoped (I knew it wouldn't be as strong as a gas machine but it still seemed weak)
    - Blade dulls abnormally fast

Other than the blade and durability issue I liked the mower. I suppose if you have a small lot and can use a short thick cord, and don't intend to use it for medium-heavy mowing jobs, this mower may work for you. Otherwise buy a stronger gas powered mower....more info
  • Great for smaller yards!
After debating what type of mower to buy for several weeks, I read a review of this B&D electric mower in Consumer Reports. At $4/gallon for gas, I didn't want a gas mower. I also hate the smell and thought of having gas cans in the garage. (not to mention smelling like gas after mowing the yard) So I bought the electric mower. This electric is perfect for my yard (about 1/4 acre).
The PROS: It can be used with the included bag or as a mulching mower, it has one button height adjustment, it is quiet, clean, and practically maintenance free, it is light and easy to maneuver. The CONS: The cord can be a pain to deal with until you figure out a system (cut closest to the cord first and work your way away from the cord as you mow). ...more info
  • Works Great
Arrived with one broken locking knob for the adjustable handle. Was an easy fix with epoxy.
It is a good feeling to not have to keep pulling a rope to get the mower started. No more smelly gasoline to bother with. Just plug it in, squeeze the on switch and go. Very easy one hand height adjustment. All four wheels at the same time. It is light weight and does not put wheel ruts in the lawn....more info

  • Noisier than expected
The mower works very well. Reviews touting the quietness of the machine exaggerated this feature. I detect very little difference between the noise level of this mower and conventional gas mowers. The beauty of the machine is that, since it derives all its power from a combination of electricity generated by my rooftop solar panels and from the electric company's wind power, it is totally independent of fossil fuels....more info
  • A cheap piece of junk !!!
I recently purchased the Black & Decker 19 inch electric mower. On the second use I hit one of the sprinkler heads. It totally trashed the motor. Knocked it out of alignment and tore up the magnets. It is now a $250 piece of junk on the lawn mower repair guy's junk pile.

This mower is very cheaply made. The shell and most parts are plastic. The motor casing is very thin sheet metel, a few steps above tin foil.

Stay away from this product !!!...more info
  • mulching leaves grass a little tall
I am using the mower for the 2nd year now it it does the job okay. I prefer to mulch instead of bagging the grass. To do that you have to mow the grass at the mulch setting which involves adjusting the height it cuts the grass at to be much higher so that the grass is longer. If you try and cut it at a shorter height, the mower blade starts to slow down significantly as it gets bogged down by the grass underneath. I try and make a balance by putting it only slightly beneath the mulch setting - in any case cutting my grass to low makes it get burned by the sun. Ideally, I'd probably prefer the optional attachment that allows the grass to come out from the side so that it would not get bogged down by the grass underneath but have not been motivated to spend the money as I am okay with the way it is working now....more info
  • Excellent mower at an excellent price
MM875 is a huge improvement over previous generations of corded electric mowers, with plenty of power, great grass cutting and excellent mulching, real ease of use (one-touch change of grass-cut height is phenomenal), and nice balance, handling and comfort in the mower overall. Plus its exceptionally quiet. This mower has gotten excellent reviews in Consumer Reports and is a Consumer Guide Best Buy. Amazon's price with the free shipping simply cannot be beat. ...more info
  • Poor Quality Mower - Doesn't Bag Well
I bought this mower a couple of years ago and have given up on it. It has trouble with grass over a few inches high. Most importantly, it doesn't bag properly and one constantly finds oneself stopping the mower to unclog the attachment....more info
  • Excellent Mower
I purchased the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog back in November 2008 and I thought maybe I should have purchased a battery operated unit Like the "green" one.
I was getting a little tired of hassling the 100 ft. cord as my property has 3200 square feet of lawn lined with Colorado river rock and trees. We have Marathon grass and it is quite robust (as lawn grass goes) and I thought I could do it better, with less hassle and quicker with the battery powered mower offered by another company.
So after reading the literature and reviews online I purchased the N----n along with all the accessories including the extra battery.
After using the battery powered unit for a month it started to fail with shorting out and running at a very low RPM or not at all.
I checked all the things needed to see if it was something I was doing and it turned out to be a problem with the circuit board. I could get 1 and 3/4 mows out of both batteries before I had to wait 2-4 days for the batteries to charge. The second Battery didn't come close to charging as well as the original one. It would get extremely hot to the point where I couldn't use it safely.
After spending $685.00 for everything and then being charged another $60 to ship it back even with it's 6 month no hassle return guarantee and 4 year warranty, needless to say I was very disappointed. That is a total of $127.00 I'm out for the shipping alone that I will not be refunded. ????
I got out my Black and Decker MM875 Lawn Hog and I was amazed at how well it performed.
Since using it regularly I have a routine down where the cord doesn't foul me up.
I love this mower! At $219 I could of bought 3.4 of these things and started a lawn route! Lol!...more info
  • Plastic chassis lacks durability
Loved this mower when it arrived, and it worked beautifully. I loved not needing gas, it was quiet when running and very easy to push.

One week after its arrival, I ran over a rock that was half buried in tall grass. The rock forced the blade into the plastic under carriage, slicing a chunk of plastic loose from the bottom and binding the blade. The mower was left inoperable. Black and Decker offered to repair the problem at no charge. Their fix consisted of applying glue to the sliced plastic part so it wouldn't hang down and catch on the blade. Not pretty, but it worked.

Today, I hit another rock. Same thing happened in a different place on the under carriage, and again, the mower is inoperable. I haven't decided what to do yet.

Bottom line... mowers DO occasionally hit rocks. It happens, no matter how careful you are. I can accept damage to the mower blade, but destruction of the mower itself should not be so easily accomplished.

As far as I can tell, all electric mowers are built with plastic mowing decks, which I think is a big mistake. It does make them lighter, which is great, but there's a lot of potential for high speed impacts in this area, and plastic isn't nearly as durable as metal.

  • MM875 Black & Decker Electric Lawn Mower
I have always wanted to try an electric mower. After we recently purchased our new home, I decided to try the corded Black & Decker Electric Lawn Mower (MM875). Our lot is on the large size which is why I did not purchase their cordless model. Our new sod had just been put in and after the required 3-4 week waiting period, it was ready to be mowed. Our new home has 4 very conveniently located electric outlets. This mower had plenty of power to cut the new thick grass. It took a while to get used to the cord but I have no problems with it now.

I am very happy with my purchase. There is no more gas and oil to deal with. And it starts right up every time with no cords to pull. I use the mulcher exclusively and the clippings are so fine that they disappear right into the lawn. Before I used it for the first time, I followed some advice that I read on these reviews about spraying the blade and undercarriage with PAM. What a great idea - it worked. Cleanups are a breeze when I am done.

I grew up with gasoline engine powered lawn mowers but now would never go back. Even on my larger than average lot, I have no problems with this mower. I also got a great deal on this mower through Amazon. I just watched the price for a while and when it dropped one day to $203, I ordered it. It was on my doorstep within 1 week. 5 STARS for this item as far as I am concerned....more info
  • I'll never go back to a gas mower
What a pleasure to use. Just open the box tighten two knobs, plug in and mow. No gas, no oil, no filters, what a way to go.
My grass had grown a little tall after the demise of my last mower (not a B & D) but this light little beauty plowed right through it with out a problem at all.
I have not used the bagger yet but it's assembley was also as easy as could be.

  • Unreliable
I decided to go green and bought electric mower, edger/trimmer and blower (all corded). I felt like driving Prius while mowing the lawn :)

It did not last long though. I mowed the lawn first time with factory settings and it worked fine. I was going on the vacation so I set it to cut 2 inches. It barely worked for 5 feet and stopped. I reverted the setting but it would not start. Since it was still under 30 day return window, I decided to call it a day.

    Pros:
    - Going green is responsible things to do
    - No smoke is blessing for people with allergies like me.
    - Pretty light weight
    - Assembly is pretty simple

    Cons:
    - Be ready to shell out $30-40 for cord
    - Mowing with cord is not simple as it seems. I felt dumb at times wondering which direction to mow now.
    - Not as powerful as gas mower and not self-propelled.
    - Unreliable (it broke down with in 3 weeks)

  • Very Happy, Easy to Use
We have been using the 19 inch corded Lawn Hog for 6 months on 25 X 75 of heavy duty turf & have been very pleased. It cleanly cuts the grass (no brown ragged edges) & both mulches & bags well. I disagree with past reviews and find handling the bag easy. It is so simple to adjust the cutting hieght. Also it is easy to assemble & store. We don't have any problem with it blowing dust, but that it possibly due to the soil conditions rather than the type of mower. My one complaint is that the cord holder which is designed to hold a loop of cord is too small for my 14 gauge extension cord....more info
  • Problem's with Amazon!
I've loved my Black and Decker mower since they day it arrived. I purchased it with the 14 gauge Coleman cord Amazon recommends as an accessory. Unfortunately, as Black and Decker have now informed me, I've done serious damage to my mower because it requires a 12 gauge cord! If you purchase one of these fine mowers, make sure that you purchase the 12 gauge cord and not the one that Amazon recommends. ...more info
  • Very difficult to use with a cord
products works good and cuts well.
I dared to buy this inspite of friendly advices about possible difficulty using a corded one. soon after using couple of times i realized it is big pain managing the cord and cutting the grass. very hard to push also. I don't recommend this type of corded, non- self-propelled model to anyone.
    pros:
No gas - no fumes no pollution
    Less noise
    Cons:
Very diffilcult to manage a cord
need to push hard to move it.
    You get tired very soon

  • Black & Decker MM875 Mulching Mower
I bought this mower a month ago and I am quite pleased with its performance. It is much lighter and easier to handle than my previous mower, a Honda gas-powered mower which is very heavy. The mulching feature works well and I no longer have to bag the clippings to be picked up and taken to a landfill. Part of the learning curve is to learn to deal with the extension cord and keeping the cord out of the way when mowing.

One reviewer had mentioned that the extension cords are three conductor cables with one conductor for grounding and that she had to buy a two prong adapter to plug the extension cord to the mower. While the plug for the extension cord is a tight-fit for the receptacle on the mover, there is no problem getting the cord seated and connected without any need for an adapter.

One of the tips that I picked up from a previous reviewer turned out to be very helpful. The review recommended spraying the bottom of the mower with a non-stick cooking spray. The grass clippings that stick to the mower are minimized and clean off easily. The one thing that I found to facilitate cleaning the bottom of the mower after the mowing is finished is to spray the bottom with aerosol bug & tar remover intended for cleaning the finish of automobiles. With the bug & tar remover, a couple of sheets of paper towel are sufficient to wipe the grass and cooking spray residue from the bottom of the mower....more info
  • Good for a small lawn
This mower is very easy to assemble from the box. The mower deck height adjustment is great. Power for cutting thick grass is adequate, but if using the mulching feature don't let the grass get too high. For my small lawn of about fifteen hundred square feet this mower is perfect. ...more info
