All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. • Great Sharpener!
  I purchased this electric knife sharpener last month and used it on 20 year old Wusthoff Trident knives. These knives have had decades of daily use. I passed them through the sharpener twice, as I felt they were really dull. Imagine my surprise when they not only worked beautifully, but actually cut through my dish towel when I dried them!

• How did this get such great reviews?
  This is one of the worst sharpeners I've ever used. Just about any pressure at all stalls the motor, so it takes a lot of patience to sharpen any knife, and in my opinion a novice with a stone can do a better job. As a matter of fact I got one of those tri stone sharpeners here and was able to do a better job on a knife in less time. I also have one of those very simple sharpeners that you just scrape down the blade and that does a better job in less time....more info

  I read the reviews on amazon and decided to give it a try. It works very well. My knives are now sharp enough to shave with. I would give some caution to people sharping pocket knives. My blades got hot after about two passes on one side so give them time to cool down. Otherwise you will mess up the steel. ...more info
• A Great Way to Ruin Your Good Knives
  I bought this because it appeared to be quicker than the original Chef's Choice I already own, which takes 20 minutes per knife. I tried it on my best Henckels 8-inch Chef's knife. I followed the directions exactly. It left the knife almost useless, duller then when I started. I tried again, with the same knife, then a second Sabatier knife, with the same results. I am now going to send these knives to a professional service to see if they can be salvaged. Complete junk!...more info

  This little beauty sharpened a couple of old Chicago Cutlery knives that were destined for trash heap...with ease.

  The slots are too narrow for some knives, however, so if you have really thick knives it won't work. I only have one knife out of a dozen or so that it didn't work on.

• Fantastic sharpener, fantastic price!
  I have used other sharpeners, to no avail. This one really sharpens knives with a minimum of effort and maximum of speed to perfection. It does not take up much room which is extremely important. I woud more than highly reccommend this sharpener....more info

  A little underpowered so it took some time to sharpen my knives, but they were eventuly sharp as any other machine i've tried including some over $125.00. Not bad!...more info
• Intuitive sharpener
  I've owned this sharpener for almost a year now. It is very easy to use. Slide the knife through each of the slots, using the first pair three times each before moving to the second pair and using them three times each. If the knife is not sharp enough repeat procedure. While this won't eliminate the need to have a professional sharpen your knives from time to time, it will keep them relatively sharp in between visits to the pro.
  
  I've owned a very nice Henckels chef's knife for the last 20 years. I also have a couple of cheap Chicago Cutlery knives, a very nice parer, and a couple inexpensive bread knives. It takes more times through the sharpener for the nicer, heavier tempered steel of the Henckels than it does the thinner knives. I was very pleased I could sharpen my one sided serrated bread knife with good results.

  I just got this last week, and I love it. I ran all my knives through it, except of course the serrated ones, and they are all as sharp as when I used to take them to the knife shop for sharpening. I even ran one of my cheap $4 knives through it and it's as good as new. My only disappointment is that I waited so long to buy this; I could have had it in my home instead of paying the guy at the mall to sharpen my knives.
  
  One thing that surprised me, probably because I didn't read the product specs, is its size. It is approximately the size of a 5x7 picture frame and is about 3" tall. It's a little bigger than I thought it would be, but I am still glad I bought it....more info
• I wish I would have bought this years ago. Its FANTASTIC!
  I have a high dollar set of Wusthoff Trident kitchen knives that I was always scared to run through a mechanical sharpener. After wasting many hours and dollars on trying to manually sharpen these using wetstones, Lansky sharpeners, etc. I was never able to get the edge like original. About 2 minutes on each knife through this sharpener restored the blades to like new. The sharpener doesnt get hot enough to damage the blade, and I didnt have any issues with sparks. Some reviews I read earlier complained about the wheels stopping and not having enough power. This is by design to prevent damage to your blades. I never had an issue with the wheels stopping. You would have to be heavy handed and not read the instructions to have a problem with this item. I love it. Best investment I made for my high dollar knives. I use the knives every day, so I need them sharp. I will probably buy another one for later use at my vacation home. GREAT PRODUCT!!! PLEASED CUSTOMER!!!...more info

  Was a little leary about this product but upon receipt and reading the directions carefully as previous reviewers had specified I am so happy with everything about it.
