Product Description

Stephanie Plum, the fearless 'bounty hunter' has to haul Kenny Mancuso to court for jumping bail and missing a preliminary hearing. The situation was pretty bad with Kenny shooting a gas attendant in the knee, but when three bullets land in his head-, there's no doubt left in Stephanie's mind that she is after a killer. And, as the mystery deepens, Stephanie realizes she has to depend on the exasperating cop, Joe Morelli, to bail her out. And for his chauvinism, she had rather depend on her hamster, Rex, instead.

  • The Dough is Super!
I really enjoyed this book alot! I am loving how now you are beginning to see how these characters all coincide with one another. I have to say other than loving Stephanie....I am so loving Grandma Mazur! She is hilarious, and plays a much bigger role in this book than the first one. Its almost like she's living vicariously through Stephanie! I like how the relationship between Stephanie and Morelli is escalating. I only wished Ranger would've played a bigger part in this book. I like him in the first one alot! The story was fast paced and moved quickly. The characters that Ms. Evanovich created for this book all in their own way added to the spectacular story! Can't wait to read the "Three" book now!...more info
  • OMG are you Kidding....??? WHY 4/12 stars???
This book was terrible. I cannot believe I even wasted my time with this typical, boring story line that felt like I was reading a bad murder mystery tv show. The characters didn't entrigue me in the slightest. And at no point did I ever think that the book was humorous. Did I miss something?? The only thing this book is good for is to have some easy light reading of a story that is so unmemorable that you will forget it the moment you put down the book. I just don't understand the draw to this type of book, with so many other good books out there... Snow FLower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See for example.......more info

  • Stephanie's still learning...
    Likes:
'Two for the Dough' was a fast-paced, exciting read. There was not one boring section in the entire book. Grandma Mazur and the rest of Stephanie's family is hilarious and I liked how they were a lot more involved in this book than they were in the first book. Grandma Mazur even helps Stephanie with catching Kenny Mancuso. Stephanie is still learning the trade of being a bounty hunter and 'Two for the Dough' is filled with laugh-out-loud moments of her trying hard to be a good bounty hunter but completely failing. Even though she still needs the help of Joe Morelli and isn't ready to work on her own yet, you can see that she is getting better and has improved since the first book.

    Dislikes:
Ranger and Eddie Gazarra were almost nonexistent. Ranger wasn't involved in the story at all. In fact, if I remember correctly he was only in about 2 scenes in the entire book. Eddie was maybe in 1. I expected Ranger to play a big role in catching Kenny Mancuso. ...more info
  • Stephanie's Back!
Stephanie Plum is back as the bumbling bounty hunter she became in One for the Money, and she's brought along a colorful cast of characters who keep her hopping. Stephanie's hot on the trail of creepy Kenny Mancuso, an FTA ("failure to appear")with a penchant for hacking body parts off dead bodies and just generally being psychotic. Also along for the ride is Spiro Stiva, the local funeral parlor director-in-training, and of course, Joe Morelli, ex-lover and current partner in detecting.

The brightest spots in this book involve Grandma Mazur, who only has to show up to bring a smile to my face. Whether she's "accidentally" opening a closed casket, firing off a gun randomly, or helping Stephanie track Kenny, she's always a breath of fresh air. Another source of amusement is the 53 Buick Stephanie "inherits"---this tank literally escapes unscathed but destroys all other cars in its path.

Overall the mystery itself is just okay; it's fairly easy to figure out what's going to happen ahead of time. It's the characters that will keep you reading and probably laughing out loud as you make your way through yet another adventure with the more guts-than-brains Stephanie. Definitely a light, fun read and especially perfect summer fare....more info
  • Spectacular sequel!
Not only does bounty hunter Stephanie Plum have the addition of a taser alongside her .38 Smith and Wesson, but now's she's on the hunt for FTA Kenny Mancuso, who is notorious for chopping body parts off of dead people. Tracking Kenny will earn her 10% of his $50,000 bond, but will also land her the duty as the bodygaurd of an undertaker. Not only does she have the backup of Joe Morelli, but Grandma Mazur has tagged along with an unsuspected .45 Magnum.

This novel is a fantastic sequel, and will keep you curious for what happens in the following book. It's action packed, but let's face it. It doesn't hold ANYTHING up to "One for the Money". However, it does make you absolutely hooked to the series. On that note, be sure you start at the beginning with "One for the Money", and then you'll have the entire scoop before starting this one!...more info
  • Highly recommend!
Janet Evanovich writes another humorous, plot driven tale with excellent character development. Stephanie and Joe team-up to find the latter's cousin who is accused of murdring his best friend. Yet Kenny proves difficult to find. Grandma Mazur and Stephanie have some hilarious adventures tracking down the allusive cousin through the funeral homes. Some may say Two for the Dough isn't as funny as One for the Money One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1) and funnier than Three to Get Deadly Three to Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, No. 3)), but I say this is a great trilogy worth read reading. Highly recommend! ...more info
  • Stephanie Plum, Bounty Hunter Extraordinaire, makes a triumphant return
In TWO FOR THE DOUGH, Stephanie's still new at this bounty hunting business, so her boss and cousin, Vinnie, is trying to give her easy cases to work on. And her latest case was supposed to be just that--simple: Apprehend Kenny Mancuso, who shot his friend in the leg and skipped on his bond. But while she's looking for Kenny, his friend turns up dead, fatally shot in the head (rhyme unintentional). Clearly, this complicates things. Meanwhile, Spiro Stiva, the weasel-like owner of a funeral parlor and a childhood friend of Kenny's, recruits Stephanie to find 24 caskets he's mysteriously "misplaced." With the help of Joe Morelli, a vice cop with whom Stephanie has a long and colorful history, and Grandma Mazur, Stephanie searches out any leads, staking out funeral homes all over the burg and even breaking into a few apartments to get answers. When embalmed body parts begin turning up in her apartment, it becomes apparent that caskets aren't the only thing Spiro misplaced. Who is sending Stephanie fingers and feet and other unmentionable body parts? And is there a connection between Spiro's missing caskets and Kenny's increasing craziness? Leave it to Stephanie Plum, the tough-talking, stun-gun-packing, purple-heel-wearing bounty hunter to figure it out!

Just like its predecessor, TWO FOR THE DOUGH is laugh-aloud funny and packed with hilarious characters. There's Grandma Mazur, who wears hot pants, dyes her hair apricot, and doesn't think twice about carrying concealed. There's Lula, the overweight ex-hooker who's trying to get into the bounty hunting business. There's Mr. Plum, who says little but speaks much with expressions and sighs. There's Joe Morelli, the hunky, tough-talkin' cop who Stephanie finds hard to resist. And there's Stephanie herself, a thirty-year-old woman with a healthy appetite and a libido to match.

And speaking of Stephanie and Morelli...Their love-hate relationship is absolutely hilarious. They make a great team: Think Starsky & Hutch, only make Hutch a woman and up the sexual tension a few thousand degrees. I'll be interested to see how their relationship progresses as I read the rest of the books!

TWO FOR THE DOUGH is a rollicking read, fast-paced and so, so fun. It's smart and witty and absolutely irresistible. Evanovich's humor is still fresh after two books, and she always leaves me wanting more. If you want an escape from your uber-serious crime novels, if you want to read a book that'll make you laugh out loud, pick up TWO FOR THE DOUGH--or any of the Stephanie Plum books--right away!...more info

I just love the characters. I thought that Spiro and his friends were just morbid characters. The characters throughout this series are just hysterical. I love Janet Evanovich's style and humor in her writing....more info
  • An Amusing Amalgam of Stock Characters
While wheeling the Interstates, we picked up a CD of "Two for the Dough," an apparently popular series featuring Stephanie Plum, a somewhat bumbling bounty hunter, to pass away the miles. As often happens in mysteries, the protagonist has a police friend or helper, in this case a long-ago suitor named Morelli, who seems to spend more time watching after Stephanie than he does on his own case. This obviously makes everything much easier as to identifications and other info that only the police have access to. A sometimes character in mysteries is the sprightly senior, in this case Grandma Mazur, who manages to get in the way and into trouble.

This isn't a bad mystery with good insights into family life of mixed Italian and others in a New Jersey setting, filled with oddballs and others, mostly drawn broadly. However, the dialogue is good, often funny, and the story moves. Although I don't deny that some people's normal conversation is filled with curses and obscenties, I think that much of it isn't needed to make the characters creditable and the plot realistic. This book is a good example....more info

I would have liked to have known the difference between abridged and unabridged. Otherwise, all was great. I received the product in minimum time and was satisfied.

  • Two for the Dough
Janet Evanovich's novel is wonderfully written in first person, we are able to see and feel everything the main character Stephanie Plum feels.
Living in the suburbs, there is no better profession to Stephanie Plum than being a bounty hunter. Nothing ever exciting happens there and the latest gossip is always about who died when, where, and how. Not until a kid named Moogey Bues was found shot and killed at the local gas station where he had worked. Eye witnesses reported they saw his best friend Kenny Mancuso fire the deadly shots at Moogey, first injuring his knees and later ending his life. It was then that something finally exciting happens and she was going to be part of it. Although very inexperienced, she was offered the task to find the well known kid, Kenny Mancuso.
Throughout her mission, to make matters worse, Stephanie's rival, Joe Morelli, gets involved. Joe Morelli is also the cousin of Kenny's and a cop. As she struggles with Morelli to find common ground for the case, Stephanie's funeral happy grandma gets involved. Grandma Muzur is not your ordinary grandma; she is wild and packs a whole lot of punch. Along the road of finding Kenny, she runs into several of Kenny's old friends who claim they have no involvement in the case, but are the only ones who continue to lead Stephanie closer to Kenny.
I recommend this book to all of you who love adventure and laughter....more info

  • When the hunter becomes the prey
Stephanie is back and she is treading deep waters as her assignments get more hairy and dangerous. Catching drunks and senile ladies who live at the train station is one thing but it's a whole other animal when Stephanie is in charge of apprehending Kenny Mancuso, a man with a very sick sense of humor and lust for chopping off people's body parts. Most of the parts come from the nearby funeral home that he's terrorizing and Stephanie sees this as the perfect opportunity to bring her wake loving Grandma Mazur with her to snoop out the truth. As usual she's unable to keep away from Joe Morelli who's slowly warming up her family towards him as he manages to invite himself to countless dinners and always seems to be lurking near Stephanie. They both want Kenny but for different reasons and now that Morelli is cleared from his previous charges he's doing his best to keep both himself and Stephanie alive while Kenny and his friends are doing everything they can to discourage them. Full of laughs and unbelievable moments the book doesn't disappoint while the reader meets more of Stephanie's relatives and associates.

Things have been looking up for Stephanie, she now enjoys regular meals, or should I say she finally eats something and even Rex her hammy gets some scares as Kenny manages to leave her a surprise that had me chuckling.

This is not a serious crime novel but a fun, light read. For those who haven't read these yet I advise to start with book one and to read in order as things progress and everyone evolves. The book was a fast read but there were a lot of characters and at times I was confused about who was who, I had to slow down and take my time getting to know some of the less memorable ones. There is always a bit of mystery in these books and some hilarious interactions between Stephanie and Joe but the crime solving gallops on it's own, the reader is merely a spectator and Stephanie takes lead observing the crimes and then trying to find the guy with sheer luck when her sleuthing doesn't provide as fruitful as she wishes. All in all I liked the first book a bit better but there was a lot more to the story line this time. When I was at the end of the book I suddenly felt hungry for more, they really leave you pumped for the next book.

I am hooked on the Stephanie Plum series! I purchased both the abridged and unabridged of this book and by far get the UNABRIDGED VERSION. Much much better! Ranger and Joe very hot! Stephanie as crazy as ever!! It is great to get lost in these stories. You keep wanting more!...more info
  • A Great, Fun Sequel
And the story continues... I'm absolutely having a great time reading about the developing relationship between Stephanie Plum and Joe Morelli. (Enough that I read the last page of the book before I started, which is not something I have done since I was a child. By the way, it didn't ruin the story.) The secondary characters in this novel are well-rounded within the context of this story, but getting to know them over the past two books has been fun. I get a kick out of Grandma Mazur. Let me just say that the whole "Bobbsey Twin" thing really added something to the story. I even "enjoyed" reading about the creepy Spiro and crazy Kenny, but only because all the humor kept me laughing despite the morbid/dark moments. This is a great book for readers who enjoy laughing, a mystery, and a bit of romance. I must get the third book!...more info
