Customer Reviews:- As good as promised!
Very well made product. I hated to spend the money, but this is a gem. It's a quantum leap above anything else I've ever used. Gradually I've moved from the $20 grinders to the $50 burr grinders--two in a row. Now with this fine KitchenAid product, I hope to use it for a very, very long time....more info - The Best
I have had many grinders over the years, but this tops them all. Exellent grind, well built. Spend the extra money to get this grinder rather than wasting $$ like I did on cheaper ones....more info - An excellent coffee grinder
I just bought one of these grinders to replace my second Capresso (that one burnt out), and it is great! It is fast, relatively quiet, and neat.
A frequent complaint is that grinds spill out when the jar is removed. Friends, that will happen with almost any grinder. I use a small rubber mallet to tap the grinder body gently before removing the jar, and I never spill any grounds. If I tap it while it is running, it also dislodges any stuck beans in the hopper. The grind is suitably coarse at the lowest setting. I use a French press, but I prefer a fine grind. On a scale of 1 to 8 (coarsest to finest), I use no. 7. If I made espresso, I should like it a bit finer. I use the grinder at the factory settings, but you can adjust it (recalibrate it) to grind finer or coarser than normal. Full instructions are in the excellent manual. You should be able to get a grind you like with this model.
I have owned several other coffee grinders, and I have had complaints about all of them. With all of my previous grinders, ground coffee would jam up inside the grinder. This does not happen with the Kitchen Aid. I believe that the Kitchen Aid grinder is the last one I will ever have to buy. I expect it to last for many years. It is big and heavy, so be sure you have a counter top you can leave it on....more info - Excellent grinder.
I bought this for my wife for Christmas 18 months ago. She is "very happy" with it.
After research, I decided to spend a little extra on a "burr-style" grinder. Both internet findings and things I've seen on TV shows say that the "even" grinding of a burr-grinder is far superior for coffee flavor.
I wish it was a bit quieter but we really like the industrial look to the product. It is a perfect match for the KitchenAid KPCM050NP Pro Line Single-Carafe Coffeemaker, Nickel Pearl that I also gave her for Christmas....more info - excellent grind, easy to use, worth the cost
Have used cheap burr grinders, and they were little better than blade grinders. This is a big step up, in terms of consistency of the grind, ease of use (the glass container really helps). Make French press more than espresso, but it works for both, and if you really need to, the burrs can be adjusted. Definitely recommended....more info - Why I Am Totally Delighted
The Kitchen Aid Pro Line burr grinder has been sitting next to my drip coffee maker for more than a week and it effortlessly became part of my morning routine after it's first use! It is solid, quiet, quick and grinds beans evenly with no static mess.
I have owned burr and conical burr coffee grinders for more than 20 years! Most recently, I owned the Bodum conical burr grinder and it died after maybe 5 years of daily use. I did quite a bit of research and decided on the Breville conical burr grinder as a replacement. The reviews on Amazon rate the Breville very highly for it's price class but I was extremely disappointed when I received it. I found it was extremely lightweight and flimsy in construction. Other than the burrs, its made of plastic. Worst of all I couldnt get the burrs (which had to be removed for cleaning along with the plastic bean hopper and grind cup before first use) to fit back in properly. I tried and tried. There was no diagram or detailed instructions. No information on the Breville web site and a customer service telephone number that was never answered. Someone on Amazon suggested just letting the burrs sit "unsecured" under the bean hopper. When attempted, the unit spewed ground coffee all over the kitchen creating a mighty mess and extreme cursing. I wasted four days trying to get Breville customer service! With great aggravation, I returned the Breville to Amazon. Back to square one.
After more research, I decided that I needed to spend more money to get the kind of coffee grinder I could live with. I wanted quality construction, ease of use, good even grind from coarse to fine, reliable customer service from a company that was not going to disappear in a few years, and finally, no plastic parts that contributed to the static electricity that caused the ground bean residue to fly around and settle on to everything nearby.
The Kitchen Aid is ugly-handsome in a 1930's futuristic, form follows function way. Like the classic Kitchen Aid mixer, this grinder delivers what it promises. "Just the facts, m'aam". It is made of solid, heavy metal and the bean caraffe and grind caraffe are both made of glass. No static! No mess! Heaven! The instruction book is extremely well written and specific to a fault. The unit is surprisingly quiet....no frightened cat! No closing the kitchen door so not to wake the household! The beans are evenly ground. There are over 15 grind settings to choose from. No timer, but really, why have one? I've never used a timer that delivered the quantity necessary. I don't even miss it.
Kitchen Aid offers an excellent guarantee. The glass parts are removable and dishwashable. And, probably most important, should disaster strike, the glass parts as well as the burrs are replaceable!
And that is why I am delighted!

As many others have said, this is not the 'do all - perfect - all in one' grinder (is there really such an item in any market!?!)...but...I would venture to say that it will serve most needs at a price far below the 'premium' grinders. It is a good looking item and seems solidly built. We have found the grind is consistent. We drink Turkish/Arabic style coffee and this machine is not quite capable of grinding to a total powder it is close enough for us, meaning there is a heavy coating of coffee grind silt/sludge at the end of each cup. Yes, it would be nice if the upper hopper fit just a bit tighter, small bean pieces do get hung up but believe me it is a non-issue. There is much talk about the lower glass bowl being too thin, again, yes it looks that way but we did not get the feeling that it is at all fragile. It seems quite strong and the lack or low static is wonderful. Also our lower bowl slides in and out with no problem what-so-ever. Is it a mess to dismantle and clean...yes...but we have ground pounds of coffee of different types (oily and not) and have only had to do it once (and that was really just for practice to see how involved it would be). We highly recommend this machine and think that most buyers would be happy with the purchase. ...more info - Finest Most Consistent With Broad Range from Coarse to Fine
Yes, it does spill a couple grinds on the counter when you withdraw the glass catcher bowl, but it is the finest, smoothest, most consistent grinder available offering a wide range from coarse to espresso fine grind. It is a heavy monstrous piece of machinery which borders on the erotic for those who yearn for the good old days when made in the USA meant something. More importantly, it has 1/2 click stops of adjustment, each of which will alter the flavor of your morning coffee. Home in and find your preferred setting using precisely the same coffee brewing technique each day. You will find your preferred taste and thereafter your coffee will have identical flavor. Variation is user induced by failing to load the beans to completely fill the bottom, or switching from sticky oily beans to dryer roasts without understanding they will feed slightly differently. Only suggestion would be measuring lines on the glass jar, but timing the grinding operation is about as good. I love it!...more info - Good looking and does most jobs

Better than sliced bread. I have gone through several coffee bean grinders especially trying to find one that ground coffee fine enough for my espresso maker and this is the one. The settings and the ability to adjust the grind not just with the dial but by ratcheting the burr I can finally get that powdery consistancy. Its beautiful to look at as well. It's the Roll-Royce of coffee bean grinders and I should know, I own a Rolls-Royce. Enjoy...more info - Has issues that should be addressed
When is works it is an outstanding burr grinder, however, with 240 pounds of beans through the machine, about half of the recommended usage before new burrs, it has developed a irritating quirk. The coffee beans become impacted within the body of the grinder, and only by disassembling the components does it become functional again. It appears the body throat is too narrow. Messy it is, which creates waste. ...more info - Great for espresso! Plenty fine grind
I agree with all the positive reviews. Now, if you are reading this, I am sure you already know that burr grinders are superior to blade grinders in every way, and the question is which grinder to buy?
A little background: I am a coffee lover, but also a coffee realist. There are some out there who bestow mystical properties upon coffee equipement. I cannot claim that this grinder will give your espresso the special voodoo magic that a Mazzer Jolly will give your espresso. Hello people, this is a coffee grinder not a particle accelerator! The goals are 1. consistent grind that is adjustable 2. ease of use (i.e. not messy) 3. durability
CONSISTENCY
I was hesitant about this grinder only because some reviewers wrote that the grind is too course. I can't say they are wrong, because I have not used their espresso machines. But my experience is totally different. I have a Gaggia Carezza machine. When I first got the grinder my first shot was with the grinder set at "8" - it was so fine it completely blocked the filter and I had to abort the shot and start over. I continued experimenting and settled on the grinder set at "6.5" which provides perfect crema and 25 second extraction. Now, understand I tamp at the recommended 30-40 lb range. It is possible the people who complain about the lack of a fine grind do not tamp at all (not recommended) or are not tamping consistently at same pressure.
EASE OF USE
Another excellent feature is that I do not use the glass receptacle and instead dose directly into the filter basket (minimal mess) Don't even need a funnel. Also, my 2 year old doesn't cry like she used to from the horrible noise that my old grinder made. This grinder is as quiet as a grinder can realistically be.
DURABILITY
I know Kitchenaid makes appliances built to last which drew me to this grinder. Which other grinders are not built entirely of plastic and have a 2 year warranty at this price?
I hope this brief review is helpful - not supposed to be as complete as others (read them too), but directed at explaining a bit more why it is such a great value....more info - Big Improvement Over Our Last KitchenAid Grinder
We had a Pink KitchenAid grinder (KCG200PK) that kept shearing pins and did not grind evenly or as fine as I would like. Whenever I ground coffee, the counter would be a mess from the grounds spraying out the front. We almost did not buy this new KA grinder because of our experience with the pink one.
This new grinder is a dream! It grinds very evenly, is much quieter, and is so much neater. I was skeptical about spending so much more to buy another KA, but I'm sold on this one....more info - Now that's a coffee grinder!
I've been through a lot of grinders... everyone has been a move up from the one before but they all have driven me out of the room with the noise even when the grind was great. KitchenAid got a lot right with this one and this is the counter cousin to the KitchenAid mixer; built like a tank and ready for kitchen warfare!...more info - Like Magic!
We used to have a burr grinder bought at Starbucks which was always a piece of garbage and finally broke. After much study, we found the Kitchen Aid and it is wonderful. Grinds well. Beans feed well. No static. Compact. Well made. Quiet (for a grinder anyway). Even grinding. No overheating. AND what we didn't know is you can remove the glass dohicky and grind right into yr espresso brewing device of yr choice...or I guess yr coffee filter too. Great....more info - Makes great espresso grind, and built like a tank
I wanted to get a new bean grinder to compliment my new espresso machine, and after searching around, I picked this one, and after using it 2 months I have no complaints. I set it to it's finest setting and it makes really nice and fine espresso ground coffee, that tamps down perfectly. It's a lot quieter than any other grinder I've owned, and it's built better than any other appliance I have on my counter currently. I like that it has the dial to vary the grind setting. Based on my experience with it so far, I can highly recommend this machine....more info - Has issues that should be addressed

Quality burr grinder. It's easy to operate. We use the coarse grind setting and get a coarse grind. The grind speed is slow as it should be and reasonably quite. The fly away coffee from static electricity is mostly gone due to the slow grind and glass container. It's well made and we expect it will outlast us. Highly recommended....more info - P.E.R.F.E.C.T.!!!!!! But mine is RED!
I always loved KitchenAid's design. A little old fashioned but so very much KitchenAid you could blindly pull every one of their products from any line.
This one is no different. And I LOVE it!!!
It's HUUUUGE just for grinding coffee beans (I use Illy coffee only).
But my mom had one. Mom is gone (not from the planet, just to an elderly home), but the grinder still lives on (in my sister's kitchen).
The noise, well it's not exactly Pavarotti, but what do you expect? After all it does grind beans.
The housing is of course die-cast metal. I wouldn't know anything more durable than this...
You can choose between 15 different grind sizes/positions. And if that wouldn't satisfy you, you can pull the thing apart and create your own setting...
It probably grinds anything but so far I only tried beans. The Sopranos might have more creative suggestions at hand. All I know is that it's very good with the beans!
The coffee bin and the bean hopper are glass.
Oh, and you don't need to read the booklet (except after having pulled it apart for your own setting) to understand how the thing works. I wouldn't start trying to clean the bean hopper when it's on, though. Your coffee might have a hint of metal only true vampires will treasure....more info - Worth it's weight in GOLD!
I purchased this Burr Coffee grinder based upon the reviews posted by others. KitchenAid has a reputation on building quality machinery used by all professional culinary artists. This same quality is built in this simple, yet consistent burr grinder. Getting consistent grinds is key to finding the perfect taste with your perfect whole coffee beans of choice.
This burr grinder is not light. It has a nice industrial sturdy feel to it. That industrial/heavy feel just gives me a sense that this grinder will probably be the last coffee grinder you'll ever have to buy. My only worry is the glass hopper. It's something you have to remind youself to be careful with. What's also nice is that there is limited static cling from the grinds in comparison to other grinders with plastic hoppers.
Some have complained about a little bit of drippage of grinds when your remove the hopper. I found a solution to the grind drippage. Just lightly tap the glass hopper upwards before removing it, and this shakes all the grinds out.
Overall, don't let the price discourage you. Quality does not come cheap!...more info - Best thing since sliced bread!
I had a terrible grinder where the container wouldn't stay in the slot under the mill. It created a mess, so I had to stick something heavy in front of it in order to grind - and it still got all over the counter. I was looking for a burr grinder that was consistent in its grind and one that wouldn't make a mess. I did a lot of research and after much deliberation, I knew that this was the one.
I was very pleased. The grinder was a lot quieter than my last and the grounds didn't go all over the place. I had read that the container below didn't fit, but I didn't experience anything like that. After getting this, my coffee tastes better. The beans didn't go stale like with my other one.
I would suggest this to anyone. I'm still amazed with the results and I got it almost a month ago....more info - Perfect grind
This KitchenAid ProLine Burr Coffee Grinder is great! The grind is perfect. Plenty of choices if you want it coarser or finer. And it's really quiet compared to other burr grinders. Easy to keep clean. And I love that the bean hopper and coffee bin are made of glass, not plastic. I have no hesitation recommending this machine....more info - KitchenAid Proline coffee grinder KPCG100NP
Extraordinary machine. This is one of the essential things that changes the taste of the coffee. Very versatile and appropriate for different styles and tastes, from the expresso to French Press coffee. It is a very well made product.
I highly recommend it to anybody that would like to have the real coffee taste, most of the time much better then in the most restaurants....more info - a heavy piece of metal
This grinder is built like a tank. When you take it apart, the metal gears are solid stainless steel pieces. The machine looks nice on the counter with its chrome finish.
However, the constant left-over powders are annoying. There has got to be a better design to prevent this. Also, I found the grind particles are not at all even, no matter how I adjust.
A nice looking machine but fall short on performance....more info
