Sharp Blades Mean Better Results
Sharp tools mean you can cut through tougher materials and create more precise details. They reduce the amount of strain work puts on your body and make you much less likely to damage your work surface or hurt yourself. But stopping to sharpen tools interrupts the flow of work, and with some systems it's quite difficult. With the Work Sharp WS2000 Tool Sharpener and grinder, you can sharpen and grind blades quickly, consistently, and easily without making a mess or delaying a project.

Quick, Consistent Sharpening
Precision tools like small chisels are extra tricky to sharpen freehand on large, rough wheels. That's why the chisel sharpening port on the WS2000 is so innovative. This port, which handles blades up to one and 5/8-inches, makes it incredibly easy to sharpen the bevel on small tools from underneath the wheel.

A hold-down bar ensures that you get a strong, consistent bevel edge with a perfect 25-degree angle. This means you avoid lengthy set-up times and the frustration of setting a jig before each sharpening.

An adjustable alignment fence in the port keeps your tool square during sharpening, and when you pull the tool back out of the port, a diamond abrasive automatically removes the burr on the back of the tool for a clean finish and a sharp edge.

Convenient Sharpening Options
For working with bigger tools, the Work Sharp WS2000 features a conveniently placed tool rest that makes it easy to hold larger blades in place as you sharpen and grind them freehand on the top of the wheel.

The horizontal grinding wheel of the WS2000 provides a larger grinding area and better control than a traditional vertical grinding wheel. And you don't have to worry about tools kicking back because you are grinding on a surface that's moving away from you.

When it comes time to sharpen contoured tools, you can slip an innovative slotted Edge-Vision wheel onto the WS2000. This lets you look through the wheel to see the edge of the tool you are sharpening, taking the guesswork out of maintaining lathe tools and other curved or v-shaped blades. Plus, the Edge-Vision wheel is made of a durable high-impact thermoplastic blend that won't change shape or wear down over time.

Safe, Mess-Free Operation
This unique sharpener runs at about 1/4 the speed of a traditional bench grinder, so your work surface doesn't heat up as much. Combined with an air-cooled heat sink design, this helps ensure that your tools don't overheat, preserving the sharpness of your edge and ensuring that you don't ruin the temper of steel tools, all without the mess of a traditional, high-end wet sharpening system.

This low-speed wheel makes it much safer to use than traditional grinders, so you can get rid of the thick, clunky protective gloves that make precision work nearly impossible. And when coupled with the large work surface of the horizontal wheel, the slower speed gives you greater control, opening up a variety of innovative uses. To make all this possible, Work Sharp uses an induction motor that deliver consistent power and torque, regardless of load.

And if you share a workspace with your family or coworkers, you can be confident that the Work Sharp's safety lock-out will prevent accidental use.

This Work Sharp tool is backed by a full two-year warranty.

  • Work Sharp WS2000 Tool Sharpener
I was a bit skeptical about this product. When I received the WS2000 for Xmas, I decided to watch the video on the website before I tried to use the tool. That was a good decision. I have sharpened all my yard tools as well as some wood chisels. It works great....more info
  • It's nice to have sharp lathe tools
I was debating on getting this or the WS3000. I decided(or rather, my budget decided) to try the smaller model. I was not disappointed. I'm sure the WS3000 has some more advanced features I could use, but the WS2000 works just fine for my small shop. The edge vision wheel makes it easy to put a sharp edge on my lathe turning chisels. The chisel port works great, also. The first thing I sharpened was a cheap old chisel I use to scrape glue. After a few minutes it was razor sharp.
If you have the extra money, go ahead and get the WS3000, but if you're on a budget, the WS2000 won't let you down....more info
  • Work Sharp WS200 review
It works pretty much as advertized. Very usefull to have around the house. The only slightly negative comment I might mentioned is that sometimes the fine sand paper disk tears too easily. An improvement I can think of is that a more permanent disk be devised rather than using sand paper disks would make this tool a 100 % must have....more info
  • Finally--sharp chisels!!!!
the WS2000 sharpener made my chisels sharp quickly. My lawn mower blade was also easy to sharpen. I really like this!!...more info
  • My cheap tools have never worked better!
Really, all those weak moments where I grabbed the cheaper hand plane or bargain chisels have just about paid off. Usually it's just counted as a frustrating loss of time and money, but I put that HD block plane blade through the WS2000 and I covered the floor with walnut shavings in just a few minutes. Does it get any cheaper than HF? I put their 7 dollar set of chisels through and I was able to curve stop my huge chamfered edge. Admittedly, it did work better with my slightly more expensive chisel though, which makes me think it at least lets each tool reach its full potential (however low that may be).

This sharpener is really something I never thought I'd use, especially at $100. But then I looked through catalogs of sharpening stones, solutions and grinders - suddenly $100 didn't seem so bad.

I'm a little unsure of whether I'm doing the hand sharpening correctly though, since you sort of eyeball the angle and adjust this little handle bar like thing, but it seems to be working when I put the blades back into use....more info
  • Excellent for the hobbyist

I posted a video review at my blog: affyx.com

The WS3000 is probably a better product, but I think you get 80% of the WS3000 for 50% of the price by going with the WS2000 - so a lot of bang for the buck, but definitely more suited towards amateurs like me.

I have never set hands on the Veritas Mk II system, but based on its larger disc (allowing flattening the bases of larger planes and more flexibility) and it's micro-bevel capabilites, it's probably worth the $89 bump over the WS3000.

I would recomend the WS2000 for hobbyists like myself, but the lack of more pro features keeps me from giving it a full 5 stars.

  • Great for the sharpening challenged!
I have to admit that I am sharpening challenged.Sometimes I get it right and other times I mess up big time. This machine definately takes the guesswork out of sharpening tools. I use it mainly for my lathe tools, but it does a fantastic job on chisels also. ...more info
  • Works as advertised!
I've only had a chance to sharpen my chisels with it so far but it works great. Looking forward to using it for other tools and blades that I have....more info
