Customer Reviews:- Sleek and Handsome. Good Sound Quality and Reception.
 Pros:
- Good sound quality.
- It has a pretty good reception.
- It is a nice sleek looking phone. Really handsome with simple lines and shape. Has a nice feel on your palm. I like the color of my wife's "Shine" even better which is deep red. Mine is silver.
- MicroSD for additional memory.
- Capable to do short videos
- Long battery life (I tested the phone for a week without using the MP3 player and video. It lasted longer than my older phone which has a smaller screen). If you use the phone as an mp3 player, then that is another story.
- Bluetooth, calculator, games, notepad...
Cons:
- The joystick is not quite a joy to use.
- The back of the phone is too scratch prone.
- Keypad has grooves to to help with identifying the keys by touch but it is not as intuitive as a regular keypad. It is difficult for texting.
- Interface is a bit annoying. Got a little learning curve to get used to.
- Heavier than most phones.
Speaker phone is usable but does not sound very exciting. I like the easy slide that has a snap feel of the front cover to expose the keypad. It feels pretty and solid.
The camera is OK. Very slow lens, but I am not really expecting much because most cell phones have extremely small lenses to gather enough light. 2 megs of resolution. Surprisingly it is equipped with a flash albeit it is tiny winy and almost next to useless. I am happy that It is big enough leap from my previous phone....more info - DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE
This is an awful phone. My son has had it only 3 months and the screen has already cracked! Had we done our research we would have read many reviews of unhappy customers with the same exact problem. The company is aware of the problem and unwilling to help dissatisfied customers. It seems to frequently occur just a few months into ownership! If you were to look at my son's phone you would think it was brand new so it's not an issue of being dropped or mishandled - it's defective. He's 13 and paid for it with his own money and has taken really good care of it. Go online, do some research and see for yourself. Do not buy this phone!...more info - It shines...And that's about all it does
I had heard many good things about this phone, so as soon as I was eligible for an upgrade I immediately purchased it. And at first I was happy with it. It's very stylish, the call reception is good, and camera's photo quality is excellent for a camera phone's standards. Unfortunately, the cons of this phone out weigh the pros. The phone is much heavier then I'd prefer, and the phone's metal coating scratches extremely easily and seems fragile if dropped. The keypad is difficult to open and the keys are small and hard to press. The phone definitely shines...So much that the screen is nearly impossible to see in sunlight. The phone's ring tone volume was not loud enough for me and I missed several calls due to not hearing it. The phone's battery life is very poor and was already low just a few hours after purchasing the phone. But the feature of the LG Shine that most frustrated me was the phone's joystick controls. I found the joystick extremely frustrating and difficult to operate unless you have smaller than average fingers. I ended up returning it in favor of the LG VU. So all in all this phone is definitely eye pleasing, but to someone who cares more about function over form, skip the LG Shine. ...more info - Great phone, so-so battery life
Bought this phone for my wife. Choice was either this phone, or Nokia N75. She wanted this phone. Since owning for a month, she's been very happy w/it. However, there are a few cons that I must point out. 1)battery life is not the greatest. In general, this phone needs a recharge about every 3 days, and it's not like my wife uses it all day. 2)can't handle MP3s as ringtones. Not sure why, but currently, I can't find a way to have an MP3 as the ringtone....more info - NO SERVICE and it isn't AT&T's fault
Bought this phone as an upgrade and liked it a lot the first few weeks, even though the call volume wasn't that great even on the highest setting, and I missed a lot of calls because even at the highest setting I couldn't hear it 2 rooms away with the doors open and no other noise interference. THEN, with 30 days to "test the equipment" given by AT&T on the upgrade contract, and I don't use the phone that much, in 5 weeks I started getting a NO SERVICE every time I tried to make a call, and then realized that all calls coming in were going directly to Voice Mail. It didn't even ring. AT&T determined it was the phone and not my sim card or service area. AT&T said I could return it for a replacement of a reconditioned or new phone, at their discretion, but it would be the same LG Shine that I am NOW not a fan of.
Thankfully, I got the phone at COSTCO, who allows 90 days to return equipment for exchange for another type phone with no questions asked. No one else does that. I am loving Costco.
I got an LG VU today. Got it home and it said, after one call, INSERT CARD, it was dead. the kiosk guy hadn't inserted it properly I guess. AT&T helped me out there by phone and I LOVE AT&T for having such good and friendly customer service. BUT AGAIN, COSTCO will let me return that puppy within 90 days if I don't like it for another phone. The VOLUME on the VU is much better by the way but I don't know yet about battery life.
The Shine is a mess for fingerprints. It scratches too easily. The volume is horrid. The speaker is iffy. The voice dial is a joke - you have to answer some voice with yes or no and I think they are speaking russian? Or very bad English. But, it DIED in 5 weeks. get something else people. The Shine, doesn't.
Look through Amazon's other offerings. Don't buy the shine. ...more info - one word SEXAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ill start with the obvious, this phone looks amazing, youll have everyone asking, "what kinda phone is that". But besides that great feature, it plays mp3, u can organize songs by artist, album, playlist and so on, i recomend u get atleast a 1 gb micro sd, on my micro sd i can put mp4 videos and the phone will play them widescreen, the speakers are fair not too loud, it also has a bunch of great tools, amazing camera its alot better than most 2mp cameras, also records video, but offcourse all this stuff really eats the battery so if u like playing music and stuff ull be chargin ur phone like every 3 days but it jsut call people itll go almost a week without a charge....more info - Love this phone very much.
Despite the fact that AT&T is the carrier and it has a few drop calls once in a while, I am very happy with the LG CU720 Shine phone. Not only is it a handsome phone, it has a lot of useful features: It's a 3G phone which allows me to connect to the internet, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, IM and email ready. So you can connect to those directly if you already had an account. I can do video calls with any 3G phones (though I have yet done that), it has a great 2.0MegaPixel camera, has a mp3 player (tried and sounded great in fact). It is XM radio ready (need separate subscription for 8.99 I think). It can play video too, I mean music videos, movie trailers..etc. It has a beautiful, large screen (screen protector is recommended, it costs me maybe like 7.99 for two pieces online -- Clarivue). It supports SDMicro card too. So, you can expand the memory easily. So if iPhone costs $400 with 2 years contract, I has got this Shine phone for free with 2 years contract. I have made a really good deal!
There are numerous type of connections that I know of: GSM / GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA, which literally means I can connect to the internet everywhere. What it makes so convenient about the phone with internet, apart from checking email, is that I can find a restaurant phone, a local map easily. I use it almost like a GPS. I have even downloaded the google map, and I can search for directions.
Games: I don't play a lot, but I am surprised to see that I am surprised to see the games available on the phone - Pacman, Tetrix - I also downloaded Bombsweeper (the anicent window game), Snake, Hangman, Video Poker, Bomber...etc (for free online - Getjar). I am in my 30s, it's just cool to see all old school games!
A lot of useful tools came with the phone, like world time, tips calculator, measure conventor, notepad...etc. Can also download a lot of other application for free at Getjar.
At first, I thought maybe I am just over-excited with this handsome new phone because of its look, but lately I do notice I am using the features it offers as well. That's more important. I don't wanna change my phone for a while....more info - Worst phone ever!
I don't know if it's at&t or the phone but I would say I lose one of every five calls I make or receive. My phone just hangs up and people and they say they get a busy signal in the middle of a call. It is very annoying!
I have never had a problem like this with any phone and I've been with at&t/cingular/cell one for many many years. That is why I think it is the phone not at&t.
Overall I am just very unhappy with the phone in general. I will never buy another LG after this. The phone just seams cheap and doesn't work well at all. You may be happy the first week you buy it but it's all down hill from there. Do not waste your money or time on this phone. ...more info - Love at first sight!
I absolutely love this phone. I got it a week or so after it came out and I am beyond happy with my choice. The design is amazing, and the functions for this phone are so easy to use. The battery on average last about 3-4 days, but recharging is very quick. The navigation button/stick is also very fun to control with. The picture quality is great. This phone has music, photos, movies, and so much more. Get this phone, you will not regret it. ...more info - Nice device but short battery life
The Shine is just plain . Stainless steel, small, mirror screen, feels good. For me though function does sometimes trump great form. All the features of the phone are slick except the battery life. That is unfortunately a huge factor for me as I hate having to recharge all of the time. I get about 2-3 days between charges. My crappy old nokia 6100 got about a week between charges. I may switch to the Sony Ericsson 580i given its long rated battery life. If you don't care about battery life though, I do recommend the Shine....more info - Disappointment
Here I'll share my problem- I got LG Shine a month ago and it's been a week or so I'm trying to figure it out how to download pictures from phone to my computer. website doesn't help at all, neither owner's manual.I'm very disappointed, I lost time and energy to try to solve the problem and it's first and gonna be last LG product I spent money for....more info - Its fine
I have read all the negative reviews about this machine. I don't get it. You guys are really high maintenance. The phone is not perfect but then what is? I do not text. Don't get that one either. I am not hard on my technology. Its a phone not a baseball. The little button thingie is kind of weird but you get used to it after a couple of days with a little patience. I have cameras to take pictures. The cell phone camera is a perk - something to use in a pinch. It is not a Nikon. I am not a small man but I have minimal fingernails which I use to push the buttons. It works for me. I started to get an iPhone but I think ATT is price gouging on the 3G billing. I think the shine is a nice stop-gap until the price of wireless data comes down a bit. The display is big and bright easy to read and it is easy to transfer pictures to and from a computer with a memory card. The one truly annoying thing about my new phone was all the blatant efforts by the carrier ATT to get you to do stuff that they could charge you extra for. There ought to be a law....more info - I am happy with this phone!
I waited about 3 weeks for this phone but it was well worth it. I was overdue for an equipment upgrade via AT&T but I really couldn't find a phone with style and function until I came upon the Shine. It's not a very popular phone and I decided to take a chance.
I know it's hard to tell the size by just looking at pictures but to give you a comparison, I had the first gen black razor. The shine basically has the same width, and height dimensions only it's a wee bit thicker but not by much at all. I was so used to the compact size of the razor that I didn't want a bulky smartphone.
This phone has some weight to it, which by my standards gives me the feeling of a quality phone and not made of cheap plastic. Hopefully this will last me at least until my next upgrade.
Navigation with the joystick takes some time to get used to, but the good thing about it is, you do really need to give it a firm push downwards to select. I haven't come across an issue where I wanted to go left, right, up or down and the joystick input it as a mistake "push/select."
I wish you could come up with your own quick options with the joystick instead of what is pre-programmed already. i.e. toggle up and you get a new message for texting. That really doesn't make sense because you have to slide open the phone? Go right and you get your AIM/Yahoo Mess. log on options. I will probably never use this feture. Down is your phone book and left is "my stuff." You do have control to customize 12 quick access options with the soft key on the right which somewhat makes up for not being able to customize the joystick.
One issue I read was the mirror finish of the screen during the daytime. Yes, it is harder to see and to read your screen in direct sunlight but cupping your hand to shade the screen shouldn't deter one from such a flaw. I had the same visibility issues with my razor as well.
When your phone rings you don't need to slide it open, you can just press the soft key on the left that says "accept." The problem I have is after I finish with the call, I feel somewhat lost in a sense that I'm used to either 1. closing the phone to end the call or 2. pressing an 'end' button. The shine's display turns off after a few seconds and it's a mirror finish so when I'm done talking I look at the phone and think, "How do I end this call??" Basically, I have learned you just let the other person end the call and you do not have to do anything.
AT&T's media is okay but the screen's resolution isn't that great at all. I think it's a good option to have if you are bored in a waiting room or to kill some time, but the picture quality isn't anywhere near that of an iphone. It's very choppy. Browsing the web on G is pretty fast for checking sports scores. I found that it came in handy.
I would highly suggest a clearshield or some sort of cover/protector to prevent scratches on the screen and the back metal plate. I have heard that if you get scratches on the front screen it shows up A LOT with the mirror finish.
Ringtones absolutely SUCK. I find that ringtone volume is loud enough. The vibe feature is very strong. Cool feature -- you can opt to have a lady SPEAK the numbers dialed instead of beeps. Something a little different. The keypad is cramped and I do hit several buttons while texting.
Even though I pointed out a lot of small flaws with this phone, I still like it A LOT MORE than my razr. Would be awesome if it had a qwerty keyboard as well. Overall, a solid phone. Can't beat it for the price either.
...more info - GREAT PHONE
I have had this phone for almost a week and love it. I exchanged the Nokia 6555 for the LG SHINE CU720. I have only charged the LG 1 time so far and the battery is still 1/3 full. I talk about 1.5 hour per day. The reception has been great. The phone itself is beautiful.
PROS:
Beautiful
Battery Life
Reception
CONS:
Learning curve for the menus
Can't feel the difference between buttons because they all connect
Buttons are a little squished
OVERALL A++
After you learn to use the phone it is GREAT! The best phone I've had in awhile....more info - Phone turn itself off randomly
I bought this phone due to its stylish design. After one day's use, Unfortunately, the phone start turn itself off randomly even with newly charged battery, after this happened, i can not turn it on by pushing power-on button no matter how long you hold the button. The only way i can turn it on is to remove the battery and put it back in place, and then push the power button to turn it on. If you Google, this issue appears to be quite common. I had a LG phone for Verizon for 3 years, it worked great. This time, the LG shine disappointing....more info - LG Dim
I bought this phone to replace a two year old phone a year ago. The Shine had half as many customizable options, the same quality camera, and ran much slower.
Pros: Looks good, mirror screen is neat, microSD slot
Cons: Buttons have long lag time; two of the soft keys are useless, taking you to your favorite options (which aren't yours, just what is pre-programmed - phone also has a "My Stuff" button which is programmable and redundant) or instant messenger (who uses that and does not even take you to the program, takes you to a choice between AIM, Microsoft, and Yahoo Messengers); the number of things that can be customized are very limited; the phone does not lock for three seconds after closing it, so when you slide it into your pocket, the over-sensitive joystick will undoubtedly be hit by something; The joystick is over-sensitive and lags in response time; the buttons often click but do not actually do anything without a firmer press; the music player has fewer features than a piece of printer paper; the headphone jack is the same as the power plug so you can't charge and listen simultaneously; as with many LG phone, the vibration is weak; and now, a year after purchase, the phone restarts every time I want to use the media player.
Conclusion: Even if it's free with contract, opt for something else. This phone looks neat but has software that could have been written in a high school computer arts class....more info - Cute Phone....but...
This phone is very nice, although I had better reception with my Motorola RZR.
I have full reception on the LG and it says No Service Available???!
Amazing. Phone up to date on bill, and yet, full reception, and not being able to use it???
Horrible. The keys are my only problem, as I love to text, with even my tiny hands I have
issues with the buttons being too small and very flat. That is my only peeve.
Reception and The buttons. Bad LG...Bad!...more info - LG Shine
I have used this product and I am very impressed. The QVGA LCD screen is 2.2-inches wide and it is 240 x 320 resolution showing 262K colors. It has a great feature set that includes a 2 mega-pixel camera w/ flash & video recording, AT&T's video sharing capabilities, music player, XM/streaming radio, 3G, bluetooth and more! Also there's a MicroSD memory slot (up to 4 GB in size). There's lot of personalization options and the 5-way joystick is surprisingly easy to use. The Shine has a thin profile (measures 3.93 x 1.99 x 0.59 inches (WxHxD) and has a very sturdy sliding mechanism and feels good in your hand because of its all metal body. The numeric keypad has a good, tactile click when you use it. I would highly recommend this phone and its well worth the price!...more info - pretty good
this phone works great for a few months, but at about a year mine got bad pretty quickly. it still works fine, but i'm worried it's on its last legs. the screen is loose, the back and front are scratched, the vibrate is insanely loud, and it sometimes freezes up.
also, when you're out in the sunlight, the mirror finish makes it absolutely impossible to see anything.
i'm outside a lot, and this drives me crazy. you have to shield it with your hand, and even then it's really difficult to see....more info - Cheap Build Material
Just a few months after I got this phone it stopped charging. The phone looks and feels cheap, although it does "shine". Overall the build quality is very poor. The internal and external components are made from cheap materials that break easily. If you are planning to get this phone be prepared to throw it out after few months use....more info
