Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Radio controlled helicopters shoot infrared "guns"
The Bad: Learning to control flights is tricky
In a Nutshell: Once you get the hang of flying, these little helicopters inspire tons of fun | At a Glance Ages: 8 and older Requires: 12 AA batteries | | |
Each lightweight helicopter has a distinct look. View larger. |
The remote control fits comfortably in two hands. View Larger. | Action-Packed Flight Lessons Featuring colorful foam bodies, blinking lights, and plastic rotors, these detailed helicopters have plenty of aesthetic appeal. Before you start flying, you'll need to charge your dueling helicopters. Use a Philips head screwdriver to insert six AA batteries (not included) in each controller. Then plug each helicopter into a controller. Since the prongs on each plug are small, you'll need to take care to seat them correctly. Now it's time to start practicing. You'll want to encourage kids to get familiar with the controls before they engage in a big-time air battle, since flying these choppers well takes practice. In addition to an on-off switch and a switch that lets you select the correct channel to control your helicopter, each hand-held controller has a throttle stick, a rudder stick, a button to adjust for trimming, and two thumb buttons for firing your infrared "guns." We found the best way to start off was flying one helicopter at a time in a large, indoor space, while focusing simply on hovering an even distance above the ground. This simple task is trickier to master than you might imagine, but with enough practice it becomes second nature. The included instruction manual and Havoc Heli Laser Battle DVD offer lots of tips for learning to fly, from focusing on the helicopter instead of the controller to applying very gentle pressure on the control sticks. Fun, Imaginative Play for Expert Pilots Once two players have learned the basics of flight, you're ready for battle. The included Air Hogs mini comic provides battle strategies, along with suggestions for adding intrigue to your laser battles. Kids and adults alike are sure to enjoy the first time they score a big hit on an opponent and see his chopper spin out of control. Younger children may end up disappointed with the learning curve associated with these helicopters, since their friends will have to practice before they can play together. That makes these a good bet for siblings or neighbors who play together often, since they can master flight simultaneously. Additionally, these helicopters offer an excellent opportunity for parents and kids to play together, offering each other flight tips and competing on equal ground. You may find yourself having even more fun than your children with these remote-control choppers. Overall, this battle set is a great way to teach patience, persistence, and principles of flight, all while having a great time. Our one real concern is the durability of the helicopters themselves. While Air Hogs thoughtfully includes extra tail rotors, and our helicopters survived lots of brutal crashes while we were learning to fly, they are made of foam and lightweight plastic. This means that any chopper that gets stepped on or tossed around is almost sure to sustain some damage. What's in the Box Two helicopters, two controllers, DVD with battle and flight tips, four spare tail rotors, rotor removal tool, aluminum labels, mini comic book, and an instruction manual.

Customer Reviews:- An AMAZING toy for kids, parents, and even grandparents! Our Family loves these!
This is such an awesome gift. I got the helicopters for my husband and son to play with and also for my father. Three generations all played with the helicopters and had a BLAST! These by far were my six year old son's favorite gift!
Great quality and easy to use with a little practice. HOURS OF FUN!...more info - Great for the money
I bought this for my brother and he loved it. After a few weeks one of the helicopters quit working but i would blame him for that because he was pretty rough with the helicopters. I would recommend this product for anyone though....more info - Fun Toy, but be careful
This toy is fun! However, after playing with one of the helicopters during it's first run, it's motor on the tail end came out and broke off. The other one is still working....more info - Hilarious fun!
Bought these for our grandson for Christmas and they were a big hit with all the kids (even Mom). Youngest was in fits of laughter the entire time he flew. Had doubts that they would last the day, but they weren't as fragile as expected. Amazon had a good price on them this year, so we took the chance. A bit tricky to control, but that just makes for more laughs. If looking for a toy to last for years, this probably isn't it--but for short term fun, definitely fits the bill. We bought the extra rotors & parts, but they haven't needed them yet. ...more info - Very cool, but...
This is a very cool game, but the toys are not durable and spinmasters support stinks at best. One heli broke after 3 flights. Emailed spinmaster (the parent company of Air Hogs) twice and still have not heard back from them. I would have gone through Amazon, but since it was a xmas present, all the packaging is gone. Fun to fly! I'll give it that!...more info - Quite Disappointing
The copter which resembles an insect will elevate and fly in an arbitrary circle at least around the room. The other one, forget it... it just spins in a violent, uncontrolled manner on the floor and that's it. The trim buttons do absolutely nothing to eliminate this problem. Either way, both of them fly randomly. You control nothing but elevation. There is no forward or backward control, and right and left is arbitrarily done by the copter itself. The remote is a joke.
Charging is 20 minutes roughly for a reward of 5 minutes of playing time. Just terrible. Thought this toy would make some kids happy on Christmas day, instead it caused mountains of grief. You are better off buying some sort of flying game for your video game console and having the kids play that....more info - Your average Air Hogs
Thank goodness I knew what to expect with the AIR HOG toys.., but he wanted them so I ordered them. The package came quickly and nicely shipped. 2 Airhogs for the price of one wasn't a bad deal. I knew one would break quickly, which it did (in 2 days) he still is playing with the other one , it made it past the NEW YEARS! Don't expect a toy that will last very long but they are LOADS of fun. Best to get them on sale.
Overall: fun toy for kids, don't have high expectations, don't get mad when they break quickly. ...more info - helicopters
i bought these helicopters for my husband and he has a blast with them. he has fun just flying them around the house and learning new manuvers. overall i thought it was a great purchase. ...more info - My four year old loves them!
Santa brought these for my four year old (even though they are 8+). He is able to fly them! He has crashed several times, but they still able to fly! We all enjoy these helicopters!...more info - Bunch of fun, and i'm an adult
I bought this for my 58 year old dad for X-mas. We both had a blast playing with these toys. I have only played with it once, so i'm not sure of the durability, but they're a bunch of fun. the shooting the other heli down is fun too, the copter spins, but won't totally crash. it will just spin...more info - a blast
these are a blast - & we're WAY over 8 yrs old in this house. you'll tear them up if you fly them as much as we do, but it's a great fun gift....more info - Fun Toy!

We've had big way hoopty fun with these helicopters so far! I'm still working on getting them trimmed out for optimum flight, but other than the challenge of trimming them out, they're working great! Younger kids might have difficulty flying them, leading toward some frustration, but depending on their ability to learn and have fun, as long as they fly them in a wide open space with little to crash into, they should have a lot of fun....more info - good ol iraq fun
 im deployed in iraq.......
with that said anything that take my mind off this place is amazing
these things were so much fun until i got one stuck over a T barrier
while gettinng it down i kinda broke one
then the other crashed hard and broke too
they still fly tho but there even more retarded then they were when we first got them
learning to fly them was hard and doesnt really get easier since the tilt doesnt really set
but once there broken there like dislexic wombats
going whereever they wants and where you dont
dont even imagine your going to play laser tag in the air lol thats just there way to get you to pick there company over others.... theres no way to do this lol
its funny though i can crap about this product all day long and still encourage everyone to buy one of these though not once did i care how much they didnt work properly or break easily there fun and even after them breaking there still fun they charge fast so your not bored long
just good ol wholesome ignorant dumb fun...............stoners would love this ...more info - Good fun but easy to break
Both helicopters had the rotors breaking within a couple of hours of play indoors, rendering them unusable. This was a gift for eleven-year olds and they didn't have time to learn to operate the toys efficiently. Not recommended....more info - great fun while it lasts....
when first out of the box, new batteries in, it's a ton of fun...but after less than 1 day, the stinger was shortcircuiting (?) sometimes the tail rotor would spin, sometimes not...new blades put on, didn't matter, then the tail rotor would spin and the main rotors would not, since I got it from amazon.com, didn't want to really take the time to try and send it back....more info - Poor durability
Lots of fun and plenty of practice with patience and perseverence learning to fly them. Unfortunately, we have had the set about five hours and one of the helis has a broken tail thing (made of thin plastic), making the the heli spin out of control every time. I'm going to try taking it back. By the way, got it at Cosco for $30. Great fun, but be very careful!...more info - Helps to have lots of room
I have mixed feelings about this product, but overall my son and I have had fun with it once we got in some practice time.
The original product I received had a defective remote and Amazon was quick to replace the entire set. The replacement product lasted a few days until one of the helis broke. The main rotor would start spinning, raise up a little from the top of the heli, and stop spinning. A phone call to the Spinmaster revealed that this was a known issue and they very promptly sent out yet another complete replacement set, but with different model helis.
This second replacement product works fine and my son has really enjoyed playing with it both by himself as well as battling with his sister or myself.
If you have a small to what I would call a normal sized room to fly in you can expect to crash a lot. The more space you have the better. In most rooms it's going to be difficult to stay in the air for any period of time before hitting something. The helis only fly forward and turn to the right, so maneuvering takes practice. Once you can master hovering in place you'll be able to stay in the air for longer periods of time.
The biggest concern I would have with the product is the durability, or lack thereof, versus the price. The first set I received was defective and the replacement set barely lasted a couple of days. The third set, which contained different models of the helis, is working fine so far. In fact, this third set of helis is much easier to fly. My guess is that either I was unlucky the first two times or there was a product improvement made somewhere along the line.
In short, when they work they're a blast to play with but durability is definitely a concern.
...more info - Interactive between child and toy and between children!
The laser helicopters are a blast for kids! The only complaint I have is that the pricetag on the box was half of what the seller sold it to me for. I was unable to contact them about this, although I tried. If the discrepency is cleared up, I would gladly purchase from this seller again....more info
