Verizon Service Options
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.

In addition to the V Cast Music service, this phone is also compatible with Verizon's V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which enables you to access this exclusive digital music service for RealNetworks and for MTV Networks. V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers. In addition, customers who purchase music over-the-air are able to download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.

The V Cast Video service enables you to stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1.

Verizon's Mobile eMail gives you access to your Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL accounts so you can read, write, and reply. Access your address book, receive e-mail alerts and more, right on your Verizon Wireless phone.

With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps.

Customer Reviews:

  • Amazing and well worth it
I purchased the LG Dare after comparing it with the iTouch and the new Blackberry Storm, I have to say, I am completely amazed with it! Overall, I really love this phone and am satisfied with my purchase.

    Screen:

The touch screen is amazing, and I love it. Its easy to use and is easily accessible after you get used to finding it. Amazing, it works BETTER with fingernails, so I'm free to have them as long as I want to [which was a problem with many touch phones out there]. I have only two problems with it: one, when texting in the QWERTY mode, you have to be precise in typing, its very easy to miss the letter and hit the one next to it. I've found that as long as my fingernail is directly in the middle, its alright. My second issue is the noises available for the touch screen. You have you're choice between water drops, rings, and various bloops and beeps. All of these are extremely annoying after long amounts of time so I have mine set to vibrate instead.

    The Menus:

Are amazing. I've had such fun and easy clicking through these that it just seems impossible that some people don't like them. The icons are big, but not big enough that they are annoying and not small enough that you have to squint. I've never had them freeze on me or had any trouble with them at all.

    Battery:

Another great thing about this phone is that it's battery life is superb. I've gone almost four days with phone calls, texting, and web surfing before I've had to charge it.

    Music and Camera:

The camera is really good. I love the clarity in which it takes photos, and it's much easier to take and then download the photos into my computer and they handle just as if they were from a real camera. I do miss my photo editor that I had on the SLVR phone, as it made it seem bright and beautiful, but that might be a feature I just haven't discovered yet.

One super cool but useless feature is the 'Drawing Pad' its loads of fun and colorful, easy to use, but also only useful for solving boredom.

Like previous reviews, the Dare doesn't let you sync music from your itunes, but I am simply copying the songs I want onto CDS and then loading them into WMP and syncing them from their, so far, that's been working. I haven't yet used Rhapsody.

    Size:

The phone is thin, which is awesome, and its still thin even with the silicone cover I have on it. Its lightweight, but heavy enough that I never forget it. Its the perfect weight!

  • Needs some work
I've had the Dare since it's release and I have to say that I'm sorely disappointed. This review will not be a comparison to the iPhone.

I have always been a fan of touch screens whether it's a phone or an atm, I just think they're nifty. I've had so many small problems with the touch screen of this phone that I've seriously considered just reactivating my old phone. I text quite a decent amount and I continue to find myself having to correct what I've typed. Sometimes letters that are across the screen some how end up in the word I just typed!

My biggest problem? The random pocket calling. My Dare has made at LEAST 30 random calls just from being in my pocket OR belt clip and something making contact with the call button. The "lock" feature is anything but a lock. I was in a meeting the other night and all of a sudden my pants were talking and all I had done was cross my legs. That's just unacceptable.

The only other annoyance is the face proximity takes too long to fade. When you're trying to put in numbers for an 800 number or the password for your vmail it's just really annoying to wait for the screen to come back on.

All in all it's a decent phone. Call quality is good. I've never had a problem with reception. And the battery life has been amazing! If I could go back and do it again I would just get something basic. ...more info
  • I love my LG Dare
I've had the Dare for almost 6 months. Here is my pro and con list.

    pros:
    Very small and light.
Battery lasts for a few days before having to recharge.
Virtual keyboard works great with my fingers.
Screen is bright and easy to read (except in direct sunlight).
    Great camera.

    cons:
Touchscreen is not always sensitive enough.
Scrolling isn't as easy as the iPhone.
I had a reliability issue. I turned the phone off before going on a plane, when I got off the plane and turned it on, it refused. No one could figure out what was wrong, couldn't get anything off my phone (luckily I have Verizon backup for numbers). Replaced under warranty.

  • Wow...amazing phone - superb quality product
I was debating between BB storm, Motorola Krave ZN4, Samsung Omnia, and Lg Dare.

I decided that since I had computers all around me at work and at home, I didn't need to pay $30 a month to be able to view YAHOO on a tiny screen. Have you tried it ??? It is useless !!!

I must have went to Verizon store 10 times to play with all the phones...after all, this would be my phone for 2 years. I really liked Dare and I ended up getting it yesterday.

I have read every single review there is on Dare...and would like to add my 2 cents.

    PROS:

    1. High quality phone...feels very expensive, and very fancy
    2. Terrific touch screen - after comparing Omnia and LG Dare for many hours I really like the Dare screen much more. It is responsive, and it is EASY to type on.
    3. Great call quality, both, in terms of reception and speaker quality - For several days prior I owned LG chocolate 3, and ended up returning it due to horrible speaker...all incoming calls sounded muffled. On this phone I get at least 3-4 bars everywhere I go, and the speaker sounds very nice.
    4. Menu is very user friendly...much better than other verizon phones
    5. Although it is not as important...but camera here rocks both in terms of quality of pics (for a phone cam) and in terms of options offered.

    Cons:

    1. Just like on ANY OTHER verizon phone (Chocolate 3, Krave, Glyde) there is a tiny lag when you go between appliations
    2. This is just me...but I would like to have some kind of slider button on the side to LOCK the phone...this phone does have a LOCK button on the side but it is a push button.

    CONCLUSION:

This is a terrific phone. It is not a gimic. This is really a finished product that works.
For those of you who are not sure about the touch screen: This screen is very responsive
and is easy to type on....more info
  • Awesome Phone!!
I am so sick and damn tired of these people that whine and complain about the service provider, and cast their rating based on customer service!!! What the hell is wrong with you people????? God!!!!! This is a place to review merchandise we have or are considering having!!!!! Not an open forum to whine about service!!!!!!! So anyone who gives this phone a Low rating regarding the customer service IGNORE THEM!!!! Stick to the reviews that actually give you the lowdown on the phone!!!!!!!! Now onto my review (please forgive the rant, these service provider crybabys really agitate the hell out of me!)
I recently switched over to an LG after many years of carrying a Motorola, which has always had superb call quality, excellent playback sounds, and voice commands. When it comes to Mobile phones the main features I look for are sound quality whether it be keypad sounds, call quality, music playback etc, and overall design. I've never owned an LG so I was interested to see how the dare would stack up against my previuos Motorolas, and I couldn't be happier! I love the menu interface, the touch screen is very responsive and accurate, and most importantly the call quality/sound quality is above and beyond my expectations as well as the voice commands and voice activated dialing. the scrolling is a little akward at first and takes some getting use to, but, it does not take long to get used to it. The handwriting feature leaves something to be desired from what I've seen so far, but who really cares when you got your full keyboard? My only real gripe is the firmware updates. To get them if your running an older firmware is to go to a verizon store or retailer and have them do the update for you. It would be nice if verizon or LG could come up with something you could directly download to your phone or computer. the automatic keylock can be annoying at times, but you can disable that in the phone settings, and the battery life for the standard battery seems to hold up pretty well. Overall i'm very satisfied with this phone and would say it is one of the top non smart touch phones available on the market at this time....more info
  • An excellent phone!
I recently purchased the Dare. A friend of mine has an iPhone and I must say that the LG Dare is probably one of the iPhone's better competitors. Is it better than the iPhone? Probably not if you're a technical person. But I am extremely pleased with this product. The camera is simply awesome. The video recorder is better than I thought it would be. Playback of music is excellent (with additional sound features depending on the type of music you are listening to). I've even reformatted movies to be viewable (it isn't that hard, either, since I'm a layman with phones).

Overall, this is one of the better phones out on the market. You need not go far to read other reviews. More often than not, this phone is within the top five of many professional reviewers. A good buy!...more info

So me and my family were planning to get this phone. We saw it was 1 cent, so we read the reviews. one review titled "boo, amazon" caught our attention. • I Love This Phone!
    Background:
I have owned the LG Dare for two weeks now. My cell phone is my everything phone so I use it all the time. I love the LG line because they are very well made phones. Also, this is my first touch phone so I was a little nervous about that.

    Pros:
The phone is very easy to use and the features are laid out well.
The manual was quick and easy to read.
Texting and calling is quick and easy.
The phone is light-weight and a sleek design (fits in your pocket).
The touch screen is very easy to use and accurate more often then not.
The speaker phone is loud and clear.
The camera is awesome with the coolest features, like Smart Pic, face detection, auto flash, and numerous editing features.
The full keyboard is very easy to use and you can glide your finger across it until you get to the letter/symbol you want.
The contact list and calendar are designed very well and incredibly useful.
The screen does not scratch easily.
When maneuvering through the phone options, there is a handy drop-down menu at the top of your phone to move back or forward through menu options.

    Cons:
You can search your contact list by a touch alphabet filter at the top of your phone book. You glide your finger across it until you get to the letter you want. This frustrates me because it barely ever stops on the letter I want. So I have to do it a few times until the phone gets it right. It could be that I am still getting use to the phone, but I still think this feature is too sensitive and doesn't work as well as it could. I am sure this is worse for someone with larger fingers. On the plus side, you can simply scroll you contact list until you get the entry you are looking for.

The camera has Smart Pic technology, a flash, and face detection but the default is set to off for all these features. So every time you use the camera you need to turn these features on. I wish the phone would remember my previous settings or set the default to have these features on.

Every smudge, fingerprint, and makeup shows up on the screen. You will need a screen protector, but honestly this is to be expected and screen protectors are cheap.

    Conclusion:
This phone is very easy to use so don't be intimidated by the touch technology. It has all the features you could possibly want from a phone. I have kept this phone in my pocket on a night out, thrown it in my purse during the day, and it survived without any scratches or other damage. In the past 8-10 years of being a cell phone user, this is my favorite phone! When my two years are up with this phone I will probably by the new version. I am sure by them my cons won't be an issue.

  • LG Dare
I have used this phone for several months. In the beginning I had to get used to the phone and keep it locked since when it was in my pocket it would call previous callers. This has now been resolved by locking the phone. I recently downloaded 288 songs on the phone so now it has taken the place of my IPOD. When using the texting or email functions I have noticed I have to be careful when hitting the Q, A and Z otherwise I will get a W,S, and x. This is under the querty board only. This phone has very limited games to apply, such as solitare and spider solitare. Other then when I mentioned this phone is great good, batery time, good call quality....more info
  • Best Build Quality of any verizon phone
I have had this phone for a week now. I waited a long time to buy it because I was unsure of how well I would do with a strictly touchscreen interface. It works brilliantly almost everywhere. Some people have seen this phone getting worse reception, but I upgraded from an En-V to this. The En-V would drop calls and lose service in two different spots in my house, but this never has less than 3 bars. The call clarity is the best I have ever heard on any cell phone. The build quality is superb. The body of this phone has NO flex in it whatsoever. It feels very solid in the hand. It is the best-made phone I have ever owned. I have trouble typing text messages on my sister's iPhone, but I find the virtual keyboard on the Dare easier to use than the iPhone's for my chubby fingers. Some will disagree with me on that one, but we all have different fingers, and mine prefer the Dare. The web browser is not quite as easy to use as the iPhone's (there is a lot more scrolling involved), but it works well and it is quite fast. Unlimited Internet is frankly a steal on this phone at only 15 bucks a month. I am surprised Verizon didn't try to charge more considering this is a full HTML phone, unlike most of their other offerings. The camera is great in bright rooms, but in darker rooms the pictures are very muddy and full of artifacts. Still better than any other camera phone I have ever used, but not a replacement for a small point and shoot camera. The video camera on the other hand is factastic. It takes better video than my sony h3, and it has a really neat super slow-motion mode (120 fps played back at 15 fps). The battery life is terrific. With my average use (which is light, I admit: 1 hr talk time per day, 70 test messages per day) It loses one bar of battery per day. But keep in mind this is also my first week with this phone, and I can't stop taking it out to play with it. I imagine the life will increase if I can manage to keep it in my pocket for a little while longer.

There are some downsides. Not many, but some nonetheless.
    1. I can't text quite as quickly as I could on the EN-V, but I was expecting this, and it really isn't a hindrance. It's about 70 percent as fast as the regular qwerty on the en-v. CONTRARY TO MANY ONLINE REVIEWS OF THIS PHONE, IT DOES IN FACT AUTO-CORRECT MESSAGE ENTRY. It doesn't correct misspellings, but for example, if you were to accidentally touch the "p" key instead of the "u" key when spelling the word "you" it will flash the "p" key but a "u" will appear in the message. Its like it can read your mind!! I have seen it do this multiple times since I got the phone last week.
    2. Many of the Get it now games are not compatible with the touch interface, so you don't have as many options. ESPN MVP is also not currently compatible, but the employee at the Verizon store assured me that a compatible version is on the way....more info

  • Phone OK but read between the lines
The Dare Phone is Ok, and i like it but the scrolling to find a number is very difficult even after using it for a couple of months now. The internet access is rather limited; entering usernames and passwords is a real trick. You have to tap on the screen over and over tot get it to bring up the data entry screen. It's rather wide to hold up to talk on; my wife hates it and practically refuses to use it.
When i bought mine privately, i was told by Verizon that i could keep my data plan (took data use off of my minutes instead of charging for them). That is the only reason i bought one privately instead of getting one from VZN. When i went to activate it over the phone the rep said "no problem" when i clearly stated i wanted to say on my original plan. I got my bill and found massive data charges. I called and the rep told me that they were mistaken; that I had to go with either the Vcast service or the Data plan. I told her i would have bought one from VZN and gotten a warranty on it if they had been honest from the beginning. They did agree to recend the data charges as long as i agreed to sign up for Vcast @ $15/month extra. I thought this was an isolated insodent till a friend called and they did exactly the same thing; changed him to the data plan with no permission or discussion. After several calls to service, they recended his charges but still required him to stay with the data plan. When i used to use teh internet on my old phone it was free on weekends and after 9PM. if u are on a data plan you will be charged for ALL use no matter when U use it...more info

  • Well rounded and feature packed
The fact that I decided to come back to Amazon to actually leave a good review for this phone says a lot (for me at least). I have owned the phone for 3 months now and I have no major complaints. My two previous phones were both flip phones; both Motorola's, and I will probably never buy another Moto again because this phone has opened my eyes to the fact that there is product out there with superior quality in comparison.

    Size:
The sleek profile of the phone fits nicely in my pocket without making it bulky. However, it's not so small that it is uncomfortable to grip for long periods of time. It sits nicely in the hand while on calls.

    The screen:
My favorite aspect of this phone. The touch response is lightning quick, accurately calibrated, and the vibrational feedback (which is configurable to either short or long pulses) is a neat function. The screen resolution and color are amazing, with my only gripe being that the screen is much harder to view in direct sunlight. But this should be obvious since it's a problem with most mobile devices.
The picture and video quality are also excellent.

    Sound quality:
My phone calls have never been so crisp. I HATE holding the phone up to my ear if I don't have to and so I've always been a fan of speakerphone whenever possible. The speakerphone on the dare blew away any other phone I've had. Not only are my callers loud and clear, but so am I to them on the other end. I also don't use my phone for music much, but this little thing impressed me very much when I played music using the same external speaker output that the dare uses for it's speakerphone.

    Menu icons layout:
I found the phone to be very intuitive, another big surprise for me after purchasing the phone. I had initially worried about where LG would decide to hide all the menus, options, and gadgets of the phone, but this worry was quickly dispelled. Simply put, the customization and standard layouts of this phone are easy to learn and well placed. This aspect of the phone, along with the screen itself and sound quality deserve 5 stars. Transitions between menus and the like are virtually lag-free as well; another plus.

Battery life is phenomenal, even with heavy use. Although I have only had the phone for 3 months.

The only reasons this phone does not get a 5 star review is because the buttons at the bottom of my phone do not "bounce back" as well as they once did and are a bit harder to actually depress, as they "stick" a little bit now. Also, out of the box, the phone is quite slick. I didn't have to live with this problem for too long because I invested in buying an Invisible Shield protector for my phone (a super thin, super scratch resistant adhesive film covering the entire phone and significantly improving the phone's grip at the same time. I would suggest one to anybody buying this phone).

I totally love my phone and would suggest it to most.

    Update:

I've had my phone for several months now and the invisible shield that I bought to cover the entire phone worked well at first, but started bubbling up and peeling in some spots. The film that covers the screen and the backside of the phone are holding up well, but my suggestion would be to just buy the one for the screen if you were interested in one at all.

I should also mention that I never have and never will use this phone to browse the internet. I have a laptop for that, and so my rating doesn't take into account the internet or email feature of this phone.

Overall, still very pleased with the phone. If you can live with a touch screen and are realistic about what having one means for functionality, I think it's a good alternative to an iPhone....more info
  • Great addition to the LG family
I really like this product. At first it drove me a bit batty with the response time but I got the hang of it pretty easy. I originally was going to get the Blackberry Storm but decided to give this one a try. What I like is that I don't feel like I have to push down as hard on the screen (as I felt that I had to do on the iPhone). It has so many features its amazing.I do feel that the screen should have been a bit bigger but other than that I have had no problems with sound or reception no matter where I go. Takes great pictures and is fun to use.
May be getting one for my significant other when his contract is done....more info
  • Wake up I have one and it is junk.
I own one of these phones and being a previous Envy owner I can only compare this phone to it. The Dare is slow, it's touch screen is oversensitive you have to correct the . mark because you wanted an n but it keeps giving you a period mark. Give it some time and you to will be back to texting the old way instead of using the full keyboard. Oh by the way I am a VIP customer with verizon for a long time now. I Love there network, but hate this phone and there responce it TOUGH should have brough it back in the 30 days. If you use this thing to text like I do in time you will hate it also....more info

  • Boo, Amazon!!!
I am not able to review the LG Dare, because after ordering I was informed that because I am a current Verizon customer, I am not eligible. Wow! • Would give it a 5 if it were a smart phone
Like a lot of people, I have two cell phones - one for personal use, and one for work. I bought this last July when it was brand new for my personal phone, and will be getting the new Samsung this coming July for my work phone once that phone is due for an upgrade.

My biggest disappointment with this phone is that it's not a smart phone - no, it's not marketed as one, but there are some things that are confusing, I think. It says in all the marketing material that the phone has a to-do list. But after hours of searching, I finally stumbled upon lg-dare.com and realized that they mean that the notepad is the to-do list. But that's not a to-do list. The one thing I really use on my phone is the to-do list, so I was all kinds of disappointed when I realized that they were referring to the notepad as a to-do list. I finally solved the problem by getting a subscription to jott.com which lets you access all your lists from anywhere.

I'm also bummed that there aren't many applications for this phone yet. I hope in future versions the code will be made available to developers so that those of us who don't have an iphone can also get applications.

The quality of calls has always been good for me. And I really enjoy vCast videos. Just today I happily passed an hour watching popup videos while waiting for new tires to be put on my car at Costco. Even after that hour, only one bar of the battery was used, so that was pretty impressive.

I have pretty big fingers and I don't have any problems with the touch screen. The one thing I will say, though, is that typing in any boxes online is tough - think of the google box, or username/pw boxes. It's just really a fun finger dance that you have to have patience for.

It seems to have a fair amount of memory - right now I have about 170 pictures and a few videos stored, and it's not running low. Also, it's so easy to set up mobile blogging, flickr, etc., so you can literally take a picture and upload it to your blog in a minute. That's very cool.

I'm looking forward to trying the new Samsung for my work phone this summer, but for now I'm still quite happy with the Dare for personal use....more info
